𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥!

If you don’t use it, you lose it.

When it comes to training for longevity, one of the most important things we need to build and maintain is 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿.

Simply put, power is your ability to produce force quickly.

Real world example: Think about what happens when you lose your balance. You slip on a wet floor, step off a curb awkwardly, or catch your toe on something.

In that moment, your body needs to react 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 to reposition itself and catch you before you fall.

As we age, power and speed are among the physical qualities we tend to lose first and the consequences can be serious. Most of us know someone who has suffered a significant injury because of a fall.

That’s why maintaining power isn’t just about athletic performance. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Power doesn’t disappear overnight. But if you stop training it, you will gradually lose it.

That’s why, in our next 8-week 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲, we’re dedicating one day each week to developing power.

Welcome to 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿.

We’ll focus on two key tools:
🏋️ Hang Power Cleans
⚡ Plyometrics

Both will be coached and scaled to your ability, so you can develop power safely and progressively.

Want to build the kind of strength and power that helps you stay capable for life?

A great gym starts with great coaches.

Coaches set the tone for the culture, the community, and ultimately the experience people have every time they walk through the door.

One of our goals as owners of Ironside is to build a coaching team made up of great athletes, experienced coaches, and most importantly, even better people.

People who care. People who pay attention. People who aren’t perfect, but lead by example and live out what they coach.

Here’s the truth: not all of our coaches can do ring muscle-ups or sn**ch their body weight.

And that’s okay, because that’s not what makes someone a great coach.

What makes someone a great coach is a passion for becoming the best version of themselves and helping others along that same journey.

Because being a great coach isn’t about being the fittest person in the room. It’s about caring enough to keep learning, keep improving, and helping others along the same journey.

For most people, fitness isn’t about competing at the highest level. It’s about getting stronger, feeling better, having more energy, and building the habits and routines that allow you to stay healthy and active for the long haul.

That takes more than good programming. It takes coaches who know how to meet people where they are, understand their goals, and genuinely care about the people they coach.

We’re incredibly proud of the coaching team we’ve built at Ironside.

They’re not only great coaches and athletes, but most importantly, they’re great people.

TRENDING AT IRONSIDE: NO MORE KNEE PAIN!

Over the summer in our Small Group Strength program, we focused on the Back Squat and building strength and stability around the knees.

These are just a handful of the members who joined the program.

Some were dealing with knee pain that had bothered them for months or even years. Some developed knee pain from being sedentary. Others simply pushed their bodies harder than they were prepared for.

But they all had two things in common:
1. Their knee pain was limiting the things they enjoyed.
2. They were ready to take action.

Today, they’re moving better, feeling better, and enjoying the activities they love, pain-free!

So how did we do it?

There wasn’t one magic exercise or one-size-fits-all solution. We approached each person differently based on their needs.

Because a good fitness program should build you up, not beat you up.

Here are a few things we consistently emphasized:

1. START MOVING!
Rest isn’t always best. A good starting point when dealing with pain is to find variations and ranges of motion for movement that allow you to train without continually aggravating your symptoms. The goal isn’t to avoid movement. It’s to find the right starting point and build from there.

2. SLOW THINGS DOWN.
Tempo squats and pause squats help build strength and control without piling on unnecessary volume.

3. BUILD SINGLE-LEG STRENGTH.
Single-leg work helps build strength, balance, and stability while allowing us to identify and address differences between legs.

The key takeaway: Don’t stop moving just because something hurts.

The goal is to find the right starting point, build strength progressively, and restore pain-free movement.

If knee pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, you don’t necessarily need to stop training.

You may just need a better plan.

Our Small Group Strength program helps you build strength in a coached, supportive environment while working toward your individual goals.

If you're tired of working around your knee and ready to start building it back up, send us a message with the word “KNEES” and we'll show you how to get started.

Why I almost quit CrossFit.

A bad first impression can send many would-be lifelong CrossFitters away for good.
I was almost one of them.

True story: My first CrossFit experience was terrible.

It started with a trial class.

I had years of experience training in traditional gyms. I enjoyed working out and was excited about taking on a new challenge.

What I didn’t expect was how lost I would feel once the class started.

Over the course of those first few classes, I quickly realized how different this was from anything I had done before.

The classes were huge, and despite the coaches’ best efforts, I barely got noticed, much less coached.

Several of the movements were completely new to me. I didn’t understand the terminology. And most of the time, I’d leave each class frustrated, confused, and honestly feeling like I hadn’t even gotten a good workout in.

Needless to say, I walked out thinking, “Maybe CrossFit just isn’t for me.”

And honestly, I almost wrote it off completely.

15+ years later, that experience still sticks with me because, believe it or not, there are still CrossFit gyms that throw brand-new members into a group class without teaching them the fundamentals first.

Sink or swim.

And for someone who has never done CrossFit before, that can be a pretty miserable experience.

It’s no wonder so many people walk away thinking, “CrossFit just isn’t for me.”

And that’s what’s frustrating. CrossFit is one of the most effective ways to get stronger, fitter, and healthier.

It’s absolutely changed my life.

But before you can experience those benefits, you need a foundation.

That’s why we do things differently at Ironside.

How you start matters.

At Ironside, before you ever step into a group class, you’ll go through our 4-Week On Ramp.

Each week combines 1-on-1 coaching to learn the fundamentals with group classes to practice what you’ve learned, build confidence, and develop the foundation you need to thrive in a group setting.

Because our goal isn’t simply to get you through your first CrossFit class.

Our goal is to help you become someone who can experience the benefits of CrossFit for years to come.

Think CrossFit isn’t for you?

Maybe you just haven’t experienced it the right way yet.

Come experience the difference at Ironside.

Schedule a No-Sweat Intro (link in bio) and let’s show you how we help beginners build the confidence and foundation to succeed.

Let's give Stephanie a warm Ironside welcome! 👋

Stephanie has done all kinds of group fitness and bootcamp-style classes, but she was looking for something that would challenge her to lift heavy. Since joining Ironside in May, she has already gained quite a bit of strength, and her lifts have gone up significantly. Stephanie is especially proud of her progress in the back squat and deadlift, which have really clicked for her over the last few months.

As a mom of three and a nurse, Stephanie is all about finding ways to stay active for the long run and continue building strength. She loves how good exercise makes her feel, too.

But what has she loved most so far? The community. She has an incredible support system at home that helps her make it to the gym, put in the work, and feel her best afterward. She’s found that same encouragement at Ironside, where everyone cheers each other on and makes you feel welcome.

We’re so happy you found your way to us, Stephanie! ❤️
