YOU HAVE TO LIVE IT AND LOVE IT!
I wanted to take a moment to share what it’s truly like working on a race team, because from the outside it can seem exciting and glamorous—but the reality is far more demanding, intense, and challenging than most people realize.
Working on a race team is not just a job—it’s a nonstop commitment that requires physical endurance, mental focus, and unwavering dedication. The days are long, often starting before sunrise and ending well after dark. During race weekends, especially, there are no real breaks. Every minute is filled with tasks: preparing the car, analyzing data, making adjustments, handling unexpected issues, and constantly pushing for better performance.
The pressure is relentless. Every decision matters, and even the smallest mistake can have major consequences—whether it’s lost time on the track, mechanical failure, or safety risks. There’s a constant sense of urgency because everything operates on tight schedules, and there are no second chances when the race begins.
Physically, the work can be exhausting. It involves hours on your feet, lifting equipment, working in extreme heat, cold, or rain, and staying alert no matter the conditions. Mentally, it’s just as taxing. You must remain sharp, focused, and adaptable, ready to solve problems instantly under pressure.
Beyond that, working on a race team often means sacrificing personal time. Weekends, holidays, and travel are all part of the job. Time away from family and friends becomes normal, and maintaining a work-life balance can be extremely difficult. Yet despite the sacrifices, everyone on the team pushes forward because of a shared passion for racing and a commitment to excellence.
At its core, this work demands teamwork, trust, and resilience. Every member relies on one another, and success comes only when everyone performs at their best, often under very demanding circumstances.
While it may look exciting from the outside—and it certainly has its rewarding moments—it’s important to understand the level of effort, discipline, and sacrifice involved behind the scenes. Working on a race team is not easy, but for those who are dedicated to it, it is incredibly meaningful.
