Sports have always served as a positive outlet for young people and boxing is a sport at that top of that list. Officer Kenny Morrow, who experienced and overcame adversity growing up, met with members of Southside Boxing Gym to discuss his path to a positive life, including the importance of setting goals and his role in policing.

Gym owner Tommy Arsiaga said, " He really opened up their eyes... It was a huge success..."

Die langen Wochen bis zu unserem Saisonbeginn erst Mitte Oktober versuchen wir mit guten Trainingseinheiten und natürlich auch etwas Abwechslung außerhalb des Handballsports zu gestalten. An diesem Wochenende haben wir uns mal an einigen Boxeinlagen bei Manni im Southside Boxing Gym versucht. Anstrengend, aber auch lustig war es für uns als Team mal wieder etwas Neues zu versuchen. Am Ende der nächsten Trainingswoche steht am Samstag, den 19. September um 16.45 Uhr ein Vorbereitungsspiel gegen die Juniorelfen aus Leverkusen im Sportzentrum Aldekerk an.

Just before the gym was closed due to COVID, several people spoke about wearing SBG gear and going around to schools and other areas doing public services such as cleaning. Today during normal gym hours I will be downtown helping clean trash and clean graffiti. It would be great to see many of you again but I understand it's a really rough time.
EDIT: with Curfew announced again tonight I'll try again tomorrow (unless we get another night of it)

Rock Steady Boxing Coach
Rock Steady Boxing offers boxing-inspired fitness classes at Air Park Recreation Center to people diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Assistant coaches / instructors will be expected to assist Rock Steady Boxing Coaches during class at all times; including set-up and takedown of equipment and supples. You will be asked to explain exercise modifications; monitor boxers physical condition; be compassionate and fully present during classes; be a good listener; keep the moral of classes positive; assist fighters with exercises; and assist with keeping the gym clean and organized. Air Park Recreation Center is looking for an individual to work approximately 10 to 20 hours per week with 1.5 hours Rock Steady Boxing classes being offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Hiring will begin immediately. Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & Experience: Qualifications: Must be able to lead a group of adults through class exercises. Capable of working with the coaches and other recreation center staff to deliver the best experience possible for our fighters. Experience or education in personal training, physical therapy, gerontology, or nursing is desired. Schedule may vary based on class participation. The team went to the Regional Golden Glove event at the Ralston Arena in Omaha last night and Yoryina & Luis are representing the Midwest and advancing to Nationals this May.

Cody also came out victorious showcasing his boxing skills and getting praises after the fight from various officials!

🚨 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15th the gym will be CLOSED. 🚨

Southside will be in Omaha fighting at the Regional Golden Glove event at the Ralston Arena.
Luis and Ibrahim are going to represent Southside in hopes to take the regional spot and represent the Midwest in Nationals.
We will also have a handful of other fighters on the card representing Southside and all we teach as well!

Yoryina Lujan has gotten to advance from regionals to nationals and will be representing the Midwest in the 132lb weight division in Philadelphia this May.
She also has an interview with KLKN-TV Channel 8 news reporter Danielle Kiser airing tomorrow 3/15 in the morning as well as at 5pm. There will be a link posted where you can watch it if you missed it when it aired. An interview supporting her journey into the boxing world and where she is going.

A lot of awards passed out over the weekend. A lot of mixed emotions as well. First let me say- we are very appreciative as a team w everything we won even as individuals. I saw this last night - this is a true leader. Leading by example and showing appreciation after a loss. NOT POINTING FINGERS AND MAKING EXCUSES. Lost with dignity and respect. Not every match or every game is going to go your way. You have to learn to pick up the pieces and go back to the drawing board. Know they’ll be another day to return. Key to life/sports or just abt anything really- YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THAT WORK. Watching this last night - this young man really won my respect.
