Architecture project calls attention to PARK(ing), human habitat
UNL College of Architecture students on May 4 will transform ordinary parking spaces in downtown Lincoln into mini parks/architectural installations that add value to the public street. They are seeking to call attention not just to urban space, but urban space here in Lincoln. Students want to generate critical debate around how public space is created, allocated and too frequently given over to the automobile. The goal of PARK(ing) DAY is to improve the quality of urban human habitat through minimal interventions ... at least until the meter runs out.
PARK(ing) Day is an annual global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into "PARK(ing)" spaces: temporary public places. Read more about this project in Today@UNL.

It has been over 135 years since J. Sterling Morton founded Arbor Day. His simple idea of setting aside a special day for tree planting is now more important than ever.
Celebrate Arbor Day in a personal way by planting a tree yourself. It is an act of optimism and kindness, a labor of love and a commitment to stewardship or take a trip to your local park and take a nature hike! Happy Arbor Day!
