Meet Common Raven #23-40, admitted to our hospital on 3/22/23. Santa Fe Animal Services helped with this rescue by bringing the raven to us. On intake, x-rays showed that the patient had been shot, and the ulna was fractured. Luckily, the bone was well-aligned so surgery was not needed. Treatment includes a bandage to stabilize the fracture, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and pain medications. Currently, the raven is doing well and has finished the course of antibiotics. The fracture is healing nicely, and we upgraded the patient to a slightly larger enclosure last week.

Many people are unaware that ravens are protected by a federal law called the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Shooting them, or any protected bird, is illegal. Spread the word!
