We're so grateful to be supported by many judoka who aren't just amazing athletes and competitors but also gifted teachers who take the time to spread the sport of Judo at every opportunity.

Instructor Spotlight: Sensei Alex
Alexandre began his martial arts journey at age 7 in Russia, training in Greco-Roman wrestling before moving to Judo and Sambo at 10. He competed nationally, earning medals at youth, cadet, and senior levels, and achieved the rank of Master of Sports in Judo/Sambo in St. Petersburg. After moving to the United States, he continued competing in veteran divisions nationally and internationally, and made multiple trips to the Kodokan in Japan to train with Japanese masters. A physician and lifelong athlete, Alexandre holds Shodan under USA Judo, awarded by Sensei Arcuri.

Tonight! As a few folks prep for upcoming competition, we’ll dig into chaining attacks to keep your opponent off balance and create opportunities for the finish. We may even sneak in a sneaky sasea opportunity when both uke and tori are 50/50 in a Georgian grip. And of course, lots of cardio and randori to keep us all moving!

I can’t thank Smithtown Judo, Judo Sports Long Island, and all the judoka who took the time to join us today enough. Our regular open workouts have been an opportunity to grow judo, connect, and build amazing relationships.

What made today even more special was reconnecting with many respected instructors and students we’ve trained with over the past 20 years. And having our founder and chief rhino in the house puts it all over the top.

Thank you to everyone, new and old, who continue to support the growth of judo through each of our clubs. It’s a privilege to be on the mats with you.
