Mid-Ohio summary written by Austin. Since we kind of failed at a YouTube blog, I figured this would suffice if you wanted to know what happened this weekend.

We left Thursday afternoon from Linton. Of course it was Clayton, Ryan, Jason, Tyler, and I. Eric would later show up to the race track late Thursday night while Josh and Mary would show up Saturday evening. Rob and Debbie were there as well for support!

Test on Friday. Tyler and I bought the Miata out to run it. It ran great and we improved greatly on the last time that we were at Mid-Ohio in it. Left a few seconds on the table, but it was great to see our hard work is paying off. Clayton got in as well because he was not able to at Gingerman, he really enjoyed the car.

Now that G2 Racing stuff is out of the way, it’s all about Team Oversteer. For test day Ryan and Clay heat cycled some tires and got a couple laps in. I went out in the car and ran about three or four laps. The car felt great to everybody. We need to change some brake pads and check them over that evening and then we went to dinner.

Saturday morning rolled around. It was raining during the drivers meeting. Clayton started us off in the wet. He was in the car for almost 2 hours and he gained 7 spots over all and 6 in class. Ryan got his turn next while it was pretty much dry. He was able to move us forward another position overall with zero change in class position. He endured a little bit of damage to the front left fender. He also had to sit in the car for around 40 minutes due to a nasty accident involving two other cars. I was next to pilot the car. I wasn’t able to go my full stint length due to a dry track and a decently timed caution to get out of the car. I gain 6 positions overall and one in class. At the point we were 12th over all and 6th in C Class. I also was able to find some extra speed and ran the fastest time of the weekend (at the time) with a 1:44.9 which my goal was to go Sub 1:45. Eric swapped Austin and had a full green stint, which gained us 8 spot overall and 3 spots in class. Something I should note, these positions gained is from when a driver leaves pit lane and when he re-enters pit lane. Clay got back into the car for the final hour with the plan to not kill the car the whole time, finish the race, and to do a couple push laps to beat my fastest lap. All was completed besides beating my lap time. We finished 14th overall and 7th in C Class. Car handled well all day, everyone got to drive, and our competition was strong. Great race!

We wake up Sunday to try and do the same thing again but with an extra driver and one less hour of driving. Which meant we would have one too many stops but we knew we couldn’t get into a podium spot so we were just gonna go out and have fun. Fun being the key part after a failed trip to New York and Sebring.

Clay starts us again. Dry and perfect track conditions. I’m not discussing positions because it’s kind of pointless for our race plan. Clay had an odd oil pressure issue on the pace laps, he came in and we figured it out quickly. Clay threw down 3 blistering laps during his stint, beating me out of the lap of the weekend. He ran just over an hour before Josh got into the car. He was had some car contact and we got a penalty, we reviewed the footage and it was over turned. Ryan was up next and at no fault of him, the day went sour. We got reports of the car smoking in right hand corners. As we try and figure this out, Ryan got slammed into the passenger door by an out of control car. He pitted so I can take a look at the damage and figure out which direction we were going to go with the motor. The footage of getting hit looked a lot worse than the car itself. We decided to send him back out. Ryan did what he could and enjoyed the chaos of traffic. Eric was due to go out but that didn’t last long. I was changing into my gear when I got a text in the group that said “Motor just blew”. Some choice words were used all around. Eric only made it a lap and a half. 3rd time Eric has been in the car when a motor has went, hopefully 3rd times a charm and he won’t have to experience that again (and the whole team). Of course we quickly packed up and headed home early.

Overall, we had fun and enjoyed hanging out, and running the car. Most importantly, we all were safe and made it out of one of the most dangerous passing tracks that we attend in one piece. We all got time in it and we finally finished a race in it this year. We are most likely done racing this season while we look into other directions for the car. I can’t go into details but next year will be different.

That didn’t last long. Eric was in the car less than a lap when the motor decided to let go. We are done.
