Some weekends you bring home medals.

Other weekends, you bring home something so much bigger. 🥹❤️🥋

To say we had an EPIC weekend at the Cordova Tournament would be an understatement.

We came with a team of 6 competitors — 3 stepping into the ring for the very first time and 3 seasoned competitors — and every single one of them came home with a medal! 🏅🔥

But as proud as I am of those medals, they aren't what made this weekend so special.

I watched nervous faces walk into those rings… and confident kids walk back out.

I watched students take a deep breath and do something that scared them.

I watched them discover that they were capable of more than they thought.

I watched confidence grow right in front of me.

And I watched them start to believe in themselves. ❤️

That is what martial arts is about.

Last night, we also got to sit down together for an amazing team dinner — laughing, talking, bonding and getting to know one another outside of the school. Those moments matter too. We aren't just building competitors. We're building a team, friendships and memories that these kids will carry with them.

To our first-time competitors: YOU DID IT. You had the courage to step into that ring, and that first step is something nobody can ever take away from you.

To our seasoned competitors: watching you continue to grow, challenge yourselves and lead by example makes me incredibly proud.

And to our parents: thank you for showing up, cheering loudly, supporting your children and trusting us to be part of their journey.

I genuinely don't have the words to describe how proud I am of this team.

The medals will eventually hang on a wall.

But the confidence, courage and belief they earned today?

That goes home with them. ❤️🥋

There are some pretty special perks to having our school right here at ATA Headquarters. 🥋❤️

Yesterday, we were lucky enough to have the wonderful **Mrs. Rhea—or as we lovingly call her, Mama Rhea—**join us during Family Class!

With several of our students stepping onto the tournament floor for the VERY FIRST TIME this weekend, Mama Rhea had a special message just for them. ❤️

First tournaments come with ALL the emotions—excitement, nerves, anticipation and maybe a few butterflies! But that first step onto the competition floor is about so much more than winning a medal.

It’s about having the courage to try something new.
It’s about challenging yourself.
It’s about making memories.
And most importantly… having FUN! 🙌

Having Mama Rhea take a few moments to encourage our first-time competitors made an already exciting week feel even more special.

We are so grateful for the incredible ATA family surrounding our students—and having moments like this happen right inside our school is something we never take for granted. ❤️🥋

To all of our first-time competitors this weekend…

Enjoy every second. Be LOUD. Be CONFIDENT. And HAVE FUN!

But tournaments aren’t only for the students chasing trophies and championship titles. They’re an opportunity to build confidence, practice discipline, make friends, overcome nerves, set goals, and discover what you’re capable of. 💪

🐯 Tiger Division (Ages 4–6)
A fun introduction to tournaments focused on sportsmanship, confidence, effort and making friends.

💚 Recreational Division
Perfect for first-time competitors or students who simply love competing without the pressure of chasing titles.

🏆 Champion Ring
Ready to take competition seriously? This is where students compete for points toward State Champion titles and District & World Championship qualification.

💙 Special Abilities
A supportive competitive environment created for our incredible students with special abilities.

🥋 Discipline isn’t something kids are simply born with. It’s something they BUILD.

It starts with showing up.
Doing the basics.
Listening when it’s hard.
Trying again when they don’t get it right.
And coming back to do it all over again.

That’s what you’re seeing in this video. 👊

These students aren’t just practicing kicks and punches—they’re learning that progress comes from consistency.

And that lesson goes far beyond the martial arts floor.

At ATA Riverdale, we help kids ages 4–12 develop the discipline to follow through, the consistency to keep going, and the confidence that comes from seeing their own progress.

Sometimes a message stops you in your tracks.

We received this from one of our parents, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

“Thank you for loving my child.”

Of all the things we hope our students learn here — confidence, discipline, perseverance, respect — I hope they also know this:

They are cared for.

There will be days when they succeed, and days when they feel like they've failed. And sometimes, what they need most in that moment isn't another lesson.

It's someone who wipes away the tears.

Someone who makes them laugh.

Someone they know they can go find.

To the parent who sent this message: thank you. You probably don't realize how much your words meant to us.

And to every parent who trusts us with their child — we don't take that responsibility lightly.

This is so much bigger than martial arts. ❤️
