It flat-out sucks to suck at PFPs.

Nobody wants to admit it… but if you can’t confidently field your position, you’re making life harder on everyone behind you. Every bunt, every slow roller, every comebacker has your defense holding their breath.

I used to be a damn good fielder.

Then, two years into my career at Washington, I got the yips.

Throwing to first became a mental war. The second that ball came off the bat back at me, I wasn’t thinking about making the play… I was thinking about not screwing it up.

That’s a dangerous place to compete from.

Looking back, I didn’t need more bullpens. I needed more uncomfortable reps.

Throw 30 or 40 pitches. Then immediately field a bunt. Make an overhand throw to first. Turn and throw to second. Do it again. And again. And again… until your brain quits questioning it.

Confidence isn’t built by hoping.

It’s built by stacking thousands of reps in situations that expose your weaknesses.

The yips cost me outs. They cost me confidence. They cost me games I could’ve helped win.

So quit avoiding the stuff you’re bad at.

Your weakness doesn’t disappear because you ignore it.

It shows up with runners on, in the biggest moment of the game… and it’ll expose you every single time. 🔥
