Classes for Jiu-Jitsu are on tonight. Please be safe driving!

Tonight was a very special day. Morning class at 11am was solid. With 2 private lessons after with newer strong guys wanting to learn.
Then 6pm the kids class was packed with fun and at the same time connecting to the bottom principles.
Then the adults after trained hard. Young Kyle earned his 1st stripe after lots of hard work.
I spoke for a few minutes in line about humility. Not an easy topic.
The founder of Judo, when he passed away, he wanted to be buried with a white belt around his waist. He wanted to be remembered not as a head Master, but rather as a student.

New Wednesday “Open Mat”

We will soon be adding a open mat time slot on Wednesday mornings, 6:30 A.M. – 7:30 A.M.
Drill technique, practice positional sparring, work on moves/transitions you want to add to your game, drill the BJJ “principals” to prevent from getting stuck in bad positions, or just roll. Stay with the same partner or switch partners, entirely up to you! A great way to start the day!

David Goldberg will be taking the lead. He is a gifted communicator with a true love and appreciation for the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

This mornings bible verse and study with my kids. I gave them shields "of faith" to protect and I had a play sword. We had so much fun!!!!
Now we are ready for nogi family class and then the adults class.

What I love about our combat academy is that we are family centered. On any Saturday you might see 15-20 families coming together and training a life protection art called "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" here in Canton!
You might notice that our practioners are encouraged to serve oneanother instead of being pompous and self focused (something rare).
When I was young I remember 1987 traveling to Dearborn heights 3 times weekly in a sweaty hot dojo. When I was younger I hated it. Then I learned to love it thru consistency and determination. It was a great way that my Dad and I spent time together. I won't ever forget how that made me feel as a kid, so I will always offer a family class to those who want that same opportunity with their kids.

These last few months I tell you hit me hard.
The young warriors train all the time.
My daughters both earned stripe 3 and stripe 2. As a Dad it's also such an honor to be their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teacher. Other students earned stripes as well and have shown impressive skills on the mat and off.

It's not easy training 3-4 days a week consistently in your "60's" with guys that are twice as big and 30 years old. David Goldberg continues to show maturity and a humble spirit in Jiu-Jitsu. As a previous wrestler and Jiu-Jitsu practioner Dave is always giving the younger guys a shot for their money with a smile on his face. We can learn from his dedication that anyone can benefit from the Jiu-Jitsu training if you follow the principles. Also he takes care of his Mother who is almost 105 years old. Please say a congrats to him on his well deserved promotion to purple belt.

Impact Mentoring Martial Arts had a great annual open mat filled with great people today. We rolled for almost 2 hours straight. We stopped for about 15 minutes to allow for some principles to take root and explanation of fundamentals. All the students are doing great and advancing very well.
I am grateful and thankful for my family, my wife who holds down the home and supports me, My Jiu-Jitsu family and GM Joe Moreira who pushes me towards the principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I do not deserve what I have so all that is left is gratitude to the one who makes us and gives mercy, grace, and the strength to come to him.

I am so very thankful to have GM Joe Moreira as my direct teacher and teach the group tonight that I pour into everday. He is a true pioneer of this beautiful art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and helps others in so many ways. Everytime I work in with him he fixes me in some way. He reminds me of my Dad (it's so hilarious to me for some reason)
