Three 13-YO’s were playfully drowning each other in the pool a few weeks ago. As they suddenly stopped with frozen statuesque silence, they witnessed a beautiful young dolphin gracefully gliding by them, performing the breaststroke. As they watched, the porpoise returned back by them again to complete a “lap”. It had all the moments of a scene from movies, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” or “Vacation” when Christie Brinkley, drove that red Ferrari past Chevy Chase. The rough housing ended as the young men (PF, MH & MH) floated silently in the pool.
Seems the fellas witnessed a lap in the pool, 140 feet, or some 70 feet per length of the pool. The courage to the guys came easily as the Hodson Dolphin happily stopped long enough to explain she was swimming “laps”! Her goal was to swim about 24 miles which is the length of the shoreline of Crater Lake (915 laps)! This is not this dolphin’s first time in setting a distance goal and happily for us, at Crystalaire there is more than one dolphin swimming laps to cover the distance anywhere from here at Crystalaire to Town & Country Market (249 laps) and even the English Channel (792 laps)! The dolphin’s has nearly reached the completion of the shoreline perimeter swim of Crater Lake. Congratulations!
I want to swim the 149 laps, the same distance as walking 18 holes on the course from the Blue tees, but of course, I would have to get in the water!
PS- These young men now clear the path for the dolphins in the pool and are just as eager and excited to see her reach her goal!!
Making memories, share it with a friend!
