Pictured here are 3 friends who probably laugh a little too loudly and like movies a bit too much. But our conversation together on the podcast was a RIOT (like the movie)!

Check out the latest episode of the Modern Young Adult with my friends Daniel Kemp and Jared Howe as we discuss opinions, popularity, and owning your personality with lots of goofing off sandwiched between.

Episode 200 of my podcast the Modern Young Adult is next week!

UNBELIEVABLE

and it got me thinking…

What have you learned?

What have you gained, from either listening to my podcast or following my content or even by getting coached by me?

And maybe you’d like to share it!

Please comment below ⬇️ one thing you’ve gained from me and I’ll include it in next week’s episode! Or maybe what you like me to talk about next.

Or you could just tell me if I should keep the mustache or not in the new year 😆

Hey you.

YOU MATTER.

I don’t know how much you tell yourself that,

But I think we all could tell ourselves that more.

If you want help with this, check out the latest episode of my podcast. It may just help you or a loved feel like you truly do matter in this world.

only you can…

A friend of mine reached out this week, telling me that her brother had been listening to my podcast for a while and that it’s really helped him while she’s been in college.

And I wondered,
“what if I had given up on that dream?”

What if I had stopped after Episode 100, 50, or even 1?

This isn’t meant to guilt you concerning dreams you walked away from. Trust me, I’ve walked away from things I loved, either because I was afraid or I felt it was right.

But I invite you to consider:

What’s the impact you DON’T see from doing this hard thing?

I see you spending this season putting WORK in.

Getting your mental game together or finally tuning into your emotions or desires. You’re studying hard to do better in school, you’re mustering the courage to go on more dates, you’re embracing the anxiety you’ve been resisting for so long. And it’s all tough!

And it can be so tempting to think this isn’t worth it.

When you feel that dread from your brain approach, I invite you to consider EVERYONE ELSE that will benefit from what you’re doing today?

Imagine just one other person having a better life because of the hard thing you do today.

Really imagine that person, see that person, love that person.

Even if it’s imaginary.

Even if the only person that ever benefits from doing this hard thing is you!

Will you do it?

Because it’s worth it.

Because you’re the ONLY person who can do what you have in your heart.

The impact you make can ONLY be made by you.

Remind yourself of that. Everyday if you have to.

You’ll thank yourself, I promise.

I was always missing out on something…

This month, I’ve decided to sacrifice a few things to clear my head and help me feel better.

No scrolling Instagram, no YouTube, no dessert.

So when someone offers me ice cream or it’s the day when my favorite YouTuber posts,

My brain whispers: “You’re missing out!!”

You also may feel like you’re missing out on hanging with friends like you used to, missing out on things that your brain says made you happy, ultimately missing out on comfort.

And so I encourage you to reply like I do to my brain:

“Yes I am missing out. I’m missing out on that so I don’t keep missing out on my life!”

You’re always going to miss out on something. There always a part of you, a desire that you choose to give up.

It’s about making that sacrifice intentional, rather than automatic like you have your whole life.

Keep going! What you want is worth the discomfort.

And if you’re ready to give up comfort and saying “I’m fine” and finally go deeper to look at your brain and get what you really want out of life, it’s time to get a coach. Let me help with a free call. Click the link in bio to learn more.

Here’s what keeps me going…

Over break, my mom introduced me to the cold plunge. The idea where things aren’t cold enough, let’s make them colder by submerging ourselves in near freezing water for a whole 2 minutes.

Let me save you the trouble, YOU’RE BRAIN DOESN’T WANT TO DO IT.

And yet, nothing really is bad.

Yes there’s pain. But you’re not gonna die. and it’s only 2 minutes of the day.

Yet the brain resists it!

And yet you can keep going IF YOU TELL YOURSELF TO.

My mom asked me before the plunge,

What thought are you going to tell yourself every second while you’re in there?

Exactly like the goal you have to study instead of go out, save instead of spend, choose healthy instead of sweet, open yourself to rejection rather than hiding, it is HARD. Probably even harder than a cold plunge.

But the principle is the same. You have to remind yourself what this is all about.

As much as your brain has a voice, you do too! And it’s time you said something back when it gets hard.

When it comes to doing hard things in life, the energy you use to keep going ISN’T coming from outside of you.

Sure, it feels nice when a friend encourages to keep going, when trainer or coach cheers us on and helps us get back up.

But what is far more reliable and far more powerful is that inner thought driving you forward.

So what are you going to think when things get tough?

I’m worth it.

I’m worth the hurt.

Yes it’s hard. And that’s okay. It’s supposed to be.

Oh hello pain, welcome back. I’ve been looking forward to you.

Hard is just a price tag, showing me that this worth it!

All that’s stopping me from doing this is me saying so.

You can do hard. Keep going! I believe in you!

Do you struggle knowing what you want out of life?

Maybe, it’s time you change that in 2024!

That’s exactly why I asked Emily Cheney, another fellow young adult life coach, to come inspire us to connect with ourselves and realize the impact from it that not only has an impact on us but everyone around us.

This episode will motivate you to stick to the goals you’ve set or just help you figure out what kinds of goals you want to set.

You don’t want to miss it!

I thought I was gonna die…

I went for a run this weekend. The first time in 2 months since I started experiencing some ankle pain.

And I felt like I was going to die.

But not the way my brain normally says, “this is hard, we should stop or we’ll die”.

But instead it was, “oh my gosh we’ve lost so much progress, we’re starting all over, this is way harder than it used to be for us”.

With my goal to run a marathon in mind, my brain wants to convince me to not do it because of how far I’ve lost my progress and we’d have to start all over.

This all HURT.

Maybe you’ve experienced this hurt too.

And could use the reminder I gave myself.

But the setbacks aren’t what’s REALLY causing the hurts.

It’s the chatter in my brain.

All the things it says I’m doing wrong,
how I’m fatter than I used to be and I should have watched what I ate,
how I’m more in debt than I used to be and I should have watched my money better,
how I’m not making any progress when it comes to dating and I should be,
how I should be better than I currently am.

There might be some variation in this voice for you, but in the end it’s all the same.

You should have been better so you wouldn’t be here.

And it’s just plain wrong about you.

Believing you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be right here, right now is what will encourage you to make progress!

Just because you get a flat tire on your journey doesn’t mean start all over. It may FEEL like it, but it’s not the truth.

Whether you’re recovering from a setback or you’ll have a setback in your goals, remember you get to decide how you feel about it and it takes talking yourself through it to get you through the chatter of your brain.

You know my biggest ambition this year?

Loving myself fearlessly no matter what.

So when the chatter gets loud, I say,

GET LOUDER!

It’s not too late.

As we’re past the landmark date of January 1st to change your life, let me remind you…

You can do it.

Whatever it is.

You can change.

You can feel different.

What you want is 100% available.

Society is wrong about you.

Your friends and family might also be wrong about you.

Your brain is definitely wrong about what’s possible.

Let’s show em.

Put it on the calendar.

Let’s finally do this thing.

This year, I had more moments than I ever have where I took in my life and sat back in awe, with this thought ringing clear:

“I’m so grateful to be alive”

I’m lucky. Honestly, life has been so good to me. So many good things really.

And it’s been hard. A lot of hard. Lots of things not going according to plan. There were tears between each of these scenes here.

And yet,

I’m grateful for it all.

Grateful for LIFE and every little microscopic insignificant thing that makes up that whole.

These pictures are but a small slice of the moments I have loved this year.

Or rather, they’re like the candles on a birthday cake, brilliant and dazzling to the eye.

But they don’t even come close to the sweet joy of the cake, composed of all the infinite nothings that make life worth living.

So thank you to you for being a part of it.

And thank you to the life we partake in for ourselves and together in some small way.

Here’s to more days like these.

Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll.

Are you worrying a lot?

Trying to figure out if this person likes you or if you even like them

Thinking excessively about what the right decision is

Stuck wondering what you should study for your upcoming final

Regretting the past or stressing about the future

And spending just so much mental energy getting in your own way?

This is what I call

Calculating.

Where we exhaust ourselves silly trying to predict what’s coming or what people are feeling, and ultimately remove ourselves from the present moment.

It’s our brain’s natural defense mechanism.
And it’s getting in the way of the life you want.

So what do you do?

Allow it.

Breathe.

Remind yourself where you are.

Set the voice aside.

And remember above all, you’re human.

Learn how you’re calculating in your life and how to set it aside to finally get some relief in your head by listening to episode 143, Stop Doing The Math, of my podcast.

You are good enough.

You don’t have to alter your personality with friends so they like you more.

You don’t have to hide your opinions so others don’t criticize you.

You don’t have to tell yourself something is wrong with you just because someone doesn’t like you.

People pleasing is “making ourselves enough for others” which indirectly confirms you are not enough for them.

When perhaps thinking that you are good just as you are might help you show up more for your friends.

Please still be kind, please still sacrifice, please still compromise, please still be a peacemaker, please still give up your desire for someone else’s sometimes.

But also please be you!

For hiding yourself is only hurting yourself. And we don’t have to do that to make others feel better.
