After a decade of training hundreds of players every year, one thing Iโve learned is that playing time has to be earned โ not given simply because everyone pays the same club dues.
Playing time isnโt only decided by what happens on game day. Itโs earned through what you do all week long โ especially when nobody is watching.
Players, if you say soccer is important to you, your actions have to match it.
You canโt consistently miss practices for things that arenโt necessary, miss for other sports, do the bare minimum, and then be upset when someone else gets more minutes.
Because while youโre choosing not to show up, someone else is choosing to work.
Your teammate might be training 5โ7 days a week. Theyโre at every practice. Theyโre doing extra training. Theyโre working at home. They simply make their development a priority.
It would be unfair NOT to reward that work.
You cannot cheat development. Eventually, the field exposes everything. It shows who really wants it.
Parents โ one of the most valuable things we can teach young athletes is to respond to adversity instead of immediately complaining about it.
Instead of:
โWhy am I not playing?โ
Teach them to ask:
โWhat can I do to EARN more playing time?โ
Because playing time isnโt about entitlement. Itโs about opportunity, preparation, competition, and response.
Someone wants your position. Someone wants your minutes. That shouldnโt scare you. It should motivate you.
And if a coach gives you 10 minutes?
Donโt spend those 10 minutes upset that you didnโt get 30.
MAKE THOSE 10 MINUTES IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE.
Run. Defend. Communicate. Compete. Be coachable. Bring energy. Show positive body language. Make an impact.
Because if youโre walking, playing slow, showing poor body language, or giving half effort during the opportunity you DO receive, you canโt blame someone else when the minutes donโt increase.
So if you want more minutesโฆ
SHOW UP. PUT IN THE EXTRA WORK. MAKE YOUR MINUTES COUNT. GIVE YOUR C

Bend your knees.
if youโre standing straight up youโre not as balanced as you should be.
The best player stay low as it becomes easier to shift and explode.
Stop playing so upright.
You canโt be quick, sharp, or dangerous if youโre standing tall.

Every coach has a different styleโitโs a fact.
A great coach isnโt defined by trophies or wins.
Itโs defined by patience, consistency, and a genuine commitment to developing playersโespecially at the youngest and grassroots levels.
Thatโs where real coaching shows.
One of the things I value most about our program is the growth.
Not just resultsโbut how quickly our players evolve in an environment thatโs different from most.
We donโt rely on yelling to be heard.
We build trust.
We teach.
We give our athletes the tools to think, play, and grow on their own.
Year after year, weโve shown that we careโ
Not just about performance, but about people.
We give our players real opportunities to train, compete, and improve consistently.
So wherever you trainโwhoever you play forโ
Make sure your coach believes in you.
And more importantlyโฆ
Make sure they care about your future.
