Do it.

Not because you want to.
Because one day life won’t give you a choice.

Life doesn’t send a warning ahead of time for the hard stuff. It just shows up.

Train for it.
Lift the weight you don’t want to lift.
Train on the days you want to lay in bed.
Show up even if you are having an internal tantrum about it.

Not because it makes you physically stronger, but because it’s rehearsal.

Do it because one day when hard things find you, it finds someone who’s already met challenges and says, I can do this.

Inspired by ’s invitation for yoga teachers who’ve been teaching for over a decade to share their first yoga photo shoot...

The first two photos are from 2009. The last one was taken just a few months later in 2010.

Every now and then, I wonder if it’s time to stop teaching.

Seventeen years is a long time to do anything. I’ve watched yoga evolve in beautiful ways, frustrating ways, and unexpected ways. But more than anything, I’ve watched this practice quietly shape me.
Looking back at these photos, I don’t just see a younger version of myself. I see someone who had no idea how much her life was about to change.

She couldn’t have imagined the confidence she would grow into, the resilience she would build, the peace she would learn, or the person she would become because she kept coming back to her mat.

I’m endlessly grateful for every teacher who took the time to share not just the poses, but the philosophy, the breath, the meditation, the stories, and the tiny shifts in perspective that slowly rewired the way I moved through the world.

Yoga didn’t just change my body. It changed my relationship with myself.

And while I occasionally wonder if it’s time to close this chapter, all I have to do is look at these photos to remember why I began.

I can say with complete certainty that I would not be who I am today without this practice.

And I fu***ng love who I’ve become.

Yoga is fu***ng sneaky...

Most people don’t come to their mat looking for self-actualization.

They come because their back hurts.

Or they’re stressed.
Or they want to get stronger.
Or they can’t touch their toes.

All good reasons to show up.

But yoga is sneaky.

You show up thinking you’re stretching your hamstrings, and ten years later you’re a completely different person.

The poses matter.

But the real magic is what happens when you keep showing up.

When I started practicing, I was insecure, unsure of myself, and constantly looking outside of myself for answers.

Somewhere along the way, yoga became a vehicle for growth.

It taught me how to trust myself.
How to sit with discomfort.
How to stop looking for permission.
And how to become more fully myself.

Not bad for something I originally started because I wanted Madonna arms. 💪💪😜🤸

I disappeared from social media for 30 days.

In that time, I read a couple of books, spent quality time with my kiddos, fell in love, worked out, ran a bunch of miles, and remembered what it was like to look out into the world rather than down at a screen.

I logged back in and immediately got pi**ed off at something, so I logged back out for a few more days.

This is the first time I’ve taken any substantial amount of time away from social media, which is kind of crazy considering I’ve been on it for most of my adult life.

Just a quick reminder y’all, we can learn a bunch here, we can check-in with people, we can laugh, but none of this is real.

Make sure to set your phone down and go engage with reality. There’s a lot of great stuff out there!

A lot of people reached out to me after my post last week about my inner critic, Francis. 😅

So I figured I’d share another strategy you can use to tame yours too: the Positive Psychology 5 “R” process.

First off, it’s important to know this…
Your inner critic is made up of old lies + distorted beliefs that try to scare you and make you feel smaller than you are.
It’s just thoughts, not reality.

And if you get nothing else from this post, remember this:
You are not your thoughts. You can notice them, challenge them, and choose what you believe.

Here’s how to tame it using the 5 R’s:
1) Recognize
Notice when it’s your inner critic talking (and what triggered it).

2) Refute
Question the thought. Is it true? Is it really true?

3) Remove
Use your imagination. Tell it to leave. It doesn’t get to stay with you in the moment.

4) Regain
Remember who you are beneath the doubt. Connect with your inner motivator.

5) Return
Come back to the present moment. Feel your feet. Breathe. Look around.

Your inner critic WILL show up… but it doesn’t get to
drive. 🚗💨
