The tragic events of 9/11/01 changed our nation forever. As founder David Clark said, "Patriotism Without Politics."

Let us not forget our proud history and the lives lost as we honor first responders and our military service people and veterans.

We had a terrific AHR on September 5-6! Best weather I can remember, and the largest turnout yet! Thank you to all of the runners, their crews and supporters, Mike Melton from MCM Timing, and to our volunteer helpers, most notably Nico and Chad who ran our overnight custom-order food station!!!

When training for the AHR, try wearing and carrying the same gear during your runs you will have on you during the race. For instance, if you will use a running vest, wear that on your training runs so that you aren't suddenly hampered on race day by sore shoulders, chafing straps, etc. It's also important to test gear so you don't get surprised on race day if something is broken. I recently discovered a week before the Leadville Heavy Half that the tip of one of my poles was broken. At least I had time to replace it because that would have been quite the unpleasant revelation the morning of the race!

The 15th annual American Heroes Run was this weekend in Longmont, Colorado. It was founded by David Clark Wearesuperman to honor military service members and veterans, first responders, and the lives lost on 9/11/2001. I have had the honor to direct it the past five years since we tragically lost David. We supported Warriors' Ascent, which provides programs for veterans and first responders enduring PTS. It was a great day with many runners completing their first-ever half-marathon, marathon, or ultramarathon! Thank you to the active military service members who raced, as well as those from the Mountain View Fire Department who ran in full gear! We also appreciate the great timing work by Mike Melton of MCM Timing. Racers came from as far away as New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California, Florida, and Calgary, Alberta! Among the many, many outstanding performances:
- 15-year old Bobby completed his first ultra!
- James, who only began running last November, completed the 9 hour & 11 minute race!
- Lisa crushed the record - and the men’s record, too - in the 9 hour & 11 minute race, running more than 60 miles!
- 73-years-young Richard won the marathon!
- 85-year-old Jim and 79-year-old Jerry completed the 5K
- 79-year-old Holly crushed more than 35 miles in the 24-hour race, like she has several times before!
- With the win, Dennis got his first 100-mile belt buckle in 25:32!
- Rose and Jeff completed the 5K, and have the most finishes in the race’s history!

Please join us next year, Sept. 5-6, for this very memorable race!
