Your true character is revealed in how you conduct yourself when you have nothing to gain from your actions. If you treat the president of the company differently than the janitor, then you are doing it for some type of personal gain. Acting one way towards someone who can benefit you and another way towards someone who can’t do anything for you is not being sincere.

You should treat people kindly and with respect simply because it is the right thing to do, not for personal gain. When you do it for personal gain, that is flattering someone to manipulate him in some way. It is playing politics. Character is not a strategy; it’s who you truly are.

Your true honor is shown when no one is watching and there is nothing at stake but your own integrity and honor. An honorable person conducts himself with honor and respect, not for praise or personal gain, but because of his personal code and his principles...

When your reputation does not line up with who you truly are, something is wrong; you are not on the right path. This same wisdom can be found in the writings of Confucius. For 25 years Chuck Norris’s and I were partners in The Total Gym. Bringing me on board was his idea ..and I’m forever grateful to have been a part of such a successful enterprise. And we had lots of fun along the way shooting in a variety of vacation hot spots around the country . His beautiful wife Gena would accompany him and sometimes jump on and exercise too. He was often on the phone with his family who seemed to run all kinds of productions and businesses for him. He was a real family man. Between takes we would get him to tell us Bruce Lee stories and his adventures in Russia and we’d laugh at the Chuck Norris jokes. We often joked about the fact that I was a delegate for Al Gore and he was George Bush’s pick as his favorite celebrity. We’d say we don’t agree politically but we can both agree on the Toral Gym. Actually… Chuck Norris was a Total GEM …of a sweet human being.
To his family that he was so proud of I’m sending my heartfelt sympathy and love.

Chuck Norris died peacefully in Hawaii on March 20, 2026. He was 86.
