For 25 years Chuck Norris’s and I were partners in The Total Gym. Bringing me on board was his idea ..and I’m forever grateful to have been a part of such a successful enterprise. And we had lots of fun along the way shooting in a variety of vacation hot spots around the country . His beautiful wife Gena would accompany him and sometimes jump on and exercise too. He was often on the phone with his family who seemed to run all kinds of productions and businesses for him. He was a real family man. Between takes we would get him to tell us Bruce Lee stories and his adventures in Russia and we’d laugh at the Chuck Norris jokes. We often joked about the fact that I was a delegate for Al Gore and he was George Bush’s pick as his favorite celebrity. We’d say we don’t agree politically but we can both agree on the Toral Gym. Actually… Chuck Norris was a Total GEM …of a sweet human being.
To his family that he was so proud of I’m sending my heartfelt sympathy and love.

Chuck Norris died peacefully in Hawaii on March 20, 2026. He was 86.

The action legend and king of all internet memes left behind a filmography that defined an entire era of American action cinema. Every viral Chuck Norris Fact traces back to the characters he built in these films. The unstoppable Texas Ranger. The one-man army. The guy who could take a bullet and keep walking.

These 5 films are ranked by fan consensus, IMDb votes, critic picks, and how often they top greatest-of-all-time lists. They’re the exact movies that created the mythology. Lone Wolf McQuade gave him the template he’d carry for the rest of his career. Code of Silence proved he could act. The Delta Force gave him his biggest set pieces. Invasion U.S.A. gave the internet its raw material. Missing in Action made him a household name.

His last Instagram post, 10 days before he died, showed him throwing punches on his 86th birthday in Hawaii. The caption: “I don’t age… I level up.”

Most people think martial arts skill comes from talent or natural ability.

It doesn’t.

Real skill is built during the thousands of repetitions when no one is watching…
when you're drilling the same movement again and again…
when you're tired…
when progress feels slow.

That’s where confidence is forged.

That’s where real ability is built.

“Skill in martial arts isn’t built in moments of inspiration—it’s built in thousands of repetitions when no one is watching.”
— Alain Burrese

Today we remember a man who became larger than life not just through his skill, but through his character, discipline, and presence.

Chuck Norris was more than a martial artist, more than an actor, more than a cultural icon… he represented toughness, integrity, and the idea that one man, fully committed, could make a lasting impact.

Long before Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu exploded in the United States, Chuck Norris was helping open that door bringing members of the Gracie family over for seminars and exposing American martial artists to something real, something effective. That kind of vision changed the trajectory of martial arts in this country.

For many of us, whether we realize it or not, we’re part of that ripple effect.

From Walker, Texas Ranger to decades of martial arts influence, his legacy is stitched into the fabric of what we do.

Grateful for the inspiration. Respectful of the legacy. And reminded that true strength is built over a lifetime. Rest easy Legend. 🙏🏻

Anyone who studies karate must be able to admit what he does not know, must have ears to listen to criticism, and must always remember to self-examine."

QOW291 - "A man cannot understand the art he is studying if he only looks for the end result without taking the time to delve deeply into the reasoning of the study." — Miyamoto Musashi

This quote speaks directly to how you approach your training in Karate. If your focus is only on getting the next belt or winning a match, you’re missing something essential. The deeper value of martial arts doesn’t come from the outcome. It comes from understanding why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Take a basic kata. You might memorize the sequence quickly, but do you understand the purpose of each movement? Can you explain the timing, the angles, or the real-life application? If you're rushing to "complete" the kata just to check it off, you miss the chance to build real insight.

Think about your last class. Were you going through motions, or were you asking yourself, “What is this technique really teaching me?” Are you treating your training like a list of tasks, or are you genuinely exploring the meaning behind what you’re practicing?

Try picking one move this week—just one—and ask your instructor or training partner to help break it down. Study how your body feels during it, where the power comes from, and when you would actually use it. You’ll likely discover layers you hadn’t noticed before.

Karate isn’t about collecting techniques. It’s about deep study—observing, questioning, and reflecting. The more you understand the "why" behind what you're doing, the more the art will come alive for you. Don’t rush the process. Let the study shape you.
