And passionate pursuer of sharing knowledge with others about finding, identifying, and talking about beach glass and various beach combing treasures! I enjoy presenting programs that include historical information on glass, pottery, and other treasures that wash up on beaches around the United States, but especially around Lake Erie in Ohio. My classes also include a hands-on opportunity for students to touch and see a variety of beach and sea glass, lots of examples of vintage glass and pottery. The presentation also includes discussions on glass rarity and identification. Beaches really do kick glass and I love talking about all of the treasures one can find on them.

A few months ago reporter Molly Walsh, with The Cleveland Plain Dealer, reached out, asking for an interview to talk about, you guessed it (or maybe didn’t), beach glass!

Of course I was happy to oblige and we met up at one of my favorite beaches, Huntington Beach in Bay Village, to look for treasures.

Anyway, that’s my t**h on the front cover, above the fold, of today’s Sunday paper. I know my folks are proud. 😆😆😆

Happy fall, y’all!!! 🍂🍁🎃 The “‘ber” months are here and just when you think it’s time to hang up your beach collecting bags, I say it’s the perfect time to continue heading to the beach for another few months of prime beach glass hunting!

So why do I recommend the “‘ber” months so highly? Here’s just a few reasons:

1. While summer vacationers come to Lake Erie, and all the Great Lakes beaches, mainly in June, July, and August, that leaves the rest of the calendar year, potentially, for a lot less crowded beaches. Especially in the fall when most people settle back into back-to-school time-of-year routines.
2. In addition, some people can be put off by the colder temperatures. Just grab an extra sweatshirt or coat for less chilly hunting.
3. Also, seasonal weather and winds often help move around more treasures.
4. Lastly, there are some locations along Lake Erie which charge entry fees or require patronage to their parks or restaurants before allowing access to their beaches. Once the summer tourism season is over, the beaches become free to access. As always, check those locations prior to visiting.

Look at all these vivid and juicy colors! And the other, more understated ones aren’t too bad, either!

Another rainbow of brilliant beach glass hues and shades of treasures found yesterday before the storms along Lake Erie, west of Cleveland. And check out the horn coral and interesting slice of a Petosky fossil.

Lake Erie, along with all of the Great Lakes, do not have tides like you see along sea coasts and open marine shores. But what we do have is wind and rain that makes our lake levels go up and down. AND the wind, in particular, helps create the waves that bring in new treasures to hunt up on the beach! Now that’s something to get excited about.

Today the temperatures are also delightfully mild. If you were thinking about going beach glass hunting today, I’d suggest you get out there because the breeze up here near the lake are still going and has been since yesterday late afternoon when several lines of storms came through as well. Should be great beach glassing over the next few days.

Lastly, it’s Sunday morning and I’m so not camera ready! So hope you enjoyed the swaying tree branches, blue sky, and fluffy white clouds. Lol.

Found one of the most curious red pieces of beach glass today. It reacted to the sunlight similarly to how a tiger’s eye...

Found one of the most curious red pieces of beach glass today. It reacted to the sunlight similarly to how a tiger’s eye stone shimmers and had almost a metallic sheen when moved around.

After doing some research, I believe I found a piece of vintage red Carnival glass. During the glass making process, the pressed glass was sprayed with metallic salts while hot, creating a high-gloss, shimmering rainbow reflection over a deep ruby or "sunset" red base.

Famous makers include Fenton and Indiana Glass. How fun! ❤️
