How Short Breath Holds can help stop a panic attack: Gently holding your breath for short, comfortable intervals interrupts rapid, shallow breathing and helps reset your breath to a steady rhythm. It also helps to increase your carbon dioxide (CO2), which in turn relaxes the muscles around your airways, making it easier to breathe.
The tingling sensation you might feel during a panic attack is caused by a decrease in CO2, so increasing it will help alleviate that sensation too.
In addition to these physiological benefits, holding your breath shifts your focus away from the panic.
I highly recommend practicing this technique now to ensure you know exactly what to do if a stressful situation occurs.
The great thing is that this practice not only helps stop panic attacks, it’s alos crucial for improving your everyday breathing, enhancing both your mental and physical health. So it’s a great practice to start your breathing journey with.
