in 1975 — Muhammad Ali faced Denver’s Ron Lyle at the Las Vegas Convention Center to defend his WBC and WBA heavyweight titles.

Lyle was slightly ahead on the judges’ scorecards in the first 10 rounds. After this slow start, Ali stopped Lyle in the 11th round showing his capacity to negotiate a fight round by round.

in 2005 —  José Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales went to war at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas to unify their lightweight titles.

In the 10th round, Castillo unleashed accurate hooks that dropped Corrales twice.

In the same round, Corrales put Castillo against the ropes and poured in a barrage of punches. The referee stepped in to stop the fight and awarded Corrales a dramatic 10TKO win. This fight produced one of the greatest comebacks ever seen in the sport.

in 1998 — Roy Jones Jr. faced Virgil Hill at the Coast Coliseum Biloxi, Mississippi. It was a catch-weight and non-title bout where the two men weighed at 177lbs.

In the first three rounds, Hill was in the fight. Then, in the fourth, the man who was considered to be the #1 pound-for-pound champion in the world, landed one of the most perfectly executed body shots that hit Hill’s kidney. In the end, Roy Jones Jr. went home with a TKO4 win.

in 1981 — Larry Holmes successfully defended his heavyweight title against Trevor Berbick but was taken the distance for the first time as a champ.

Holmes was forced to go the distance since his epic title-winning bid against Ken Norton. He had defended his title 8 consecutive times by knockout, tying the record of Tommy Burns, but the Jamaican born fighter ended the streak.
