The theme for the night is Caribbean Wine!
8PM ALL-LEVELS LESSON: "Dutty Wine" or "Dirty Wine". Wining the waist in dance has its origins in many African cultures & traditions. You can find wining in Afro-Caribbean culture, Afro-American (USA), & Afro-South American culture. There are different types of wine dances but since they all come from the same root, the body mechanics are the same. We will be focusing on the basic mechanics of wine, to various Caribbean music: Dancehall from Jamaica 🇯🇲, Soca from Belize 🇧🇿, & Calypso from Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹.
Wining is a sensual, & erotic dance, that is meant to bring attention & awareness to our s*xuality. The circular, side to side & thrusting motions of the pelvis remind us of how we got here, represents the creative nature of women & men when we are in union (baby making). Our pelvis is home to our s*xual organs, & is where our root chakra or root dantien is located... This Union (when healthy) is where we can find our Devine s*x (masculine & feminine). The masculine cannot be Devine without holding space for the feminine, & the feminine cannot be Devine if not holding space for masculine. By African traditional standards (pre-colonial), we are Half of Being & complete one another.. With this understanding, dancing this dance is common amongst strangers, plutonic friends, & lovers alike... (It's just a dance)... & are just having fun while exploring & playing with the body. To the music of course. Wine can be done solo & can be done with one or multiple partners. Can be danced close with contact or can be danced at a distance with no contact, depending on the nature of relationship or connection between partners.

🎭 2nd DJ, 10:00PM-Midnight: DJ is back! Dave Harris's sets emphasize rhythm and sensuality, connection and momentum. Originally from West Philly, Dave fell into music because it made him feel s*xy when he was alone. Now, he loves nothing more than to create sets that help everyone feel like their most beautiful selves alone or with someone else's beautiful self. He loves that moment after a dance when you look at your partner and simultaneously know that you want to dance again. He is a storyteller through and through; a DJ by passion and a writer for TV, film, and theatre by profession.
