But this is not just a cold picture of the Soviet winner, deinek still romanticizes his character, aspiring to a beautiful future for which there was still hope in those years. Football images fascinated the artist from the very beginning - the stadium became his Plein Air. He managed appointments with athletes, and he himself practiced boxing. 10 years before the "Goalkeeper", deinek wrote his other great work - "Football", and then several dozen similar drawings.

Footballers, swimmers, bodybuilders - these are the main plots of his paintings. Take, for example, the huge canvas "Goalkeeper" 1934 of the year from the collection of the Tretyakov gallery, where a goalkeeper is captured floating in the air, spreading his hands behind a ball flying towards the goal. In addition to artistic value, perspective play, like the artists of the Italian Renaissance, and movement, important meanings are established here: the goalkeeper, according to many art historians, appears nothing more than a divine being, a Titan, hanging in conditional space, where the ball most resembles a planet. That is, the goalkeeper, an athletic and fit man, becomes the center of the universe.

Deineka's sport is a philosophy, a dream and a metaphor. Here it still does not smell of propaganda and state order, but real art rules, which simply coincided with the spirit and the request of time, and therefore came to court.
