Fortunately no polers think this way โ about flexibility training.

โPolers don't need to do strength training, because poling already develops your strength."
We don't know how this mindset became the accepted wisdom. But we do know it's wrongheaded, and has prevented countless polers from realizing their full potential.
How do we know this?
It's a general principle of human performance that, for any activity that heavily utilizes capabilities XYZ, one's performance can be drastically improved via exercises that specifically train XYZ.
This is why ballerinas do foot exercises.
This is why rock climbers do hand exercises.
This is why opera singers do breathing exercises.
This is why polers do flexibility exercises.
And this is why polers ๐ด๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ do strength exercises.
Now, we know what you're thinking: "Are you telling me I need to start lifting weights? One of the reasons I started pole is because I don't like going to the gym."
Absolutely not.
Although weightlifting isn't a bad thing, it simply isn't the best way to develop the kind of strength that is most helpful for pole.
And this is because traditional strength training:
โ ... targets individual muscles in isolation.
โ ... uses arbitrarily restricted ranges of motion.
โ ... focuses on larger and more visible "vanity" muscles.
But for polers, the optimal strength training should:
