Easier said than done. Am I right? But the longer you wait to get something done the more unnecessary stress you are causing yourself. As soon as you get that audition, or book that job, make a plan of action that will set you up for success. Don’t wait until the day your audition is due to record if you know you have a busy few days and have free time right now to prep and slay it!

Make sure your wardrobe reflects the types of characters you go out for. What you wear, affects how you feel. It is important to find those staple pieces that you can go to without a second thought and know that they will make you feel like the essence of the role you are auditioning for. This will also take away the stress of what to wear when audition prepping. The colors should compliment your skin tone and the fit should enhance your body. Try to stay away from anything too busy but remember to stay true to your personal style at the same time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Your wardrobe should enhance your work not distract from it.

Showing genuine gratitude goes a long way. It is important to remember that we are people first, actors second and basic human kindness should always be a given. Would you thank your parents for the birthday card you received in the mail or your friends for helping you move? Well, it goes the same for thanking your agent for all of the hard work they do for you, the casting directors for constantly being in your corner and calling you in, the directors & producers for seeing your talent and giving you an opportunity to do what you love!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Remember that while your talent is important, acknowledging the village it took to get you where you are today is even more so.

Q. How do I calm my nerves before an audition?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. First and foremost, remember that if you got an audition, casting has already seen something in you that they like. You have the advantage here. They are rooting for you! Let go of the thought that you have to change yourself to be exactly what they want and know that you already are what they want. Channel your nerves into your words. Focus in on what your character is thinking. Put yourself in the situation that your character is going through. Be their voice. Know that you are a talented artist, you are capable, and you are worthy of having this audition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The one thing that will always remain constant when working on a script is the need to uncover and discover who your character is authentically. Find joy in the process of dissecting your script and analyzing what clues the writer is giving you about who this person is. Remember, characters in a script are as real and multidimensional as you are. It is your job to give them life! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
