Hispanic Heritage Month (Mes de la Herencia Hispana) takes place September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, extensive histories, and the importance of Latinx folks in the US.
Did you know that persons of Hispanic origin are the nation’s largest ethnic/racial minority? In fact, we are 56.6 million strong; almost 18% of the U.S. population with the largest numbers residing right here in California.
Yet, despite our presence and strength in numbers, we are facing a crisis in knowledge of, access to and the use of mental healthcare.
Because of this, it’s so important for to spread information and resources that are culturally competent and made to serve and support Latinx folks. This post highlights a few.
As always, CalHOPE is dedicated to serving those in CA who are in need of resources and/or counseling due to the pandemic. Please reach out or pass this information along.

Hey y'all! July is and CalHOPE @ USC wanted to bring it to your attention. Navigating traditional forms of care is very difficult for historically marginalized communities due to inaccessibility, stigma, and racism. As a result, mental health disparities are prevalent and BIPOC are experiencing the implications of these inequities. Regardless of these struggles, people of color have been resilient through relying on the strengths of their communities. Please remember about the importance of allyship, cross-cultural, and intersectional support as we transition back into the world. Let’s continue to be kind and supportive to one another. ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾✊🏼
To our BIPOC followers, as you move forward with this year, try your best to take care of yourself and put yourself first because oftentimes the system forgets to.
If anyone is having a hard time, please contact CalHOPE @ USC: 866-740-6502 to speak one of our peer counselors.
