You’re adult, you don’t need snacks.

If you “need” a snack or are craving snacks, it’s either because you’re bored or are stuck in a habit loop where you have taught yourself a snack will make you feel better… and neither of those are good reasons to have a snack.

You should be getting all of your energy needs and nutrients from your 3 meals throughout the day.

HOWEVER, if you’re an athlete or a highly active adult… you can definitely have snacks. If you don’t have a large appetite and have trouble eating enough, snacks can be very helpful. They can also be great for pre-workout and post-workout fuel.

If you’re not an athlete or active adult, make sure to keep your protein high throughout the day AND drink lots of water because this will keep you satiated. And make sure to get vegetables and healthy carbohydrates during your meals.

Now, if you want to get lean and eat more (ie: be able to have snacks AND get in better shape) make sure to follow me.

A sandwich is a perfect & quick meal to get lean.

It’s highly customizable based off your personal goals.

Carbs - for energy, to support performance in and out of the gym

Fats - for energy and hormones

Protein - for recovery, building & maintaining muscle

Add pickles and veggies to your hearts content.

It’s super easy to make a sandwich to support your goals, but it’s also easy to make one that doesn’t. So keep the sandwich simple, and track each component of it if you need to.

How to eat more and get lean PART 9

YOUR Metabolism 102: Many people were surprised to find out that exercise only accounts for 5% of a person’s daily calorie burn. So I want to share how I think you should exercise to maximize that 5%.

The goal of exercise is to build strength, lean muscle, improve performance and quality of life.

So the 3 things you should be doing is:

1️⃣ RESISTANCE TRAINING - calisthenics, weight lifting, anything that imposes a heavy load on your body. It will help prevent osteoporosis and osteopenia. And building muscle over time will slowly, and marginally, raise your basal metabolic rate. I’m talking over the course of years. But don’t get discouraged, see above for the main purpose of exercise.

2️⃣ SPRINTING & JUMPING - not only will you have an amazing butt… but you will also have a high quality of life because you will be a robust and resilient person. And high intensity training uses a mechanism called EPOC, which means you will burn more calories after than steady state cardio. If you have not sprinted or jumped in awhile, DO NOT immediately start. There are progressions to follow.

3️⃣ PLAY - yes, do something that is fun and brings you joy! A sport, a martial art, playing with kids, spike ball… just something that is fun!

If you want to get lean and eat more, don’t depend on exercise to outwork a bad diet. Building muscle & improving your fitness will increase your BMR over time, but exercise is mainly to improve your quality of life, by becoming stronger and more capable.

How to eat more and get lean PART 8

YOUR Metabolism 101: If you don't understand how your body burns and uses calories, you're not going to get lean.

So here's your metabolism.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE):

1️⃣ BMR — 70%Your basal metabolic rate. If you laid in bed all day and watched paint dry, this is what your body would still burn. Driven by your weight, body composition, height, and age.

2️⃣ NEAT — 15%Non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Walking, fidgeting, cleaning, everything that isn't a workout. This is the biggest lever most people ignore. Take the stairs. Set a timer to get up from your desk and walk around the office. Just move more.

3️⃣ TEF — 10%The thermogenic effect of food. You burn calories digesting what you eat. Keep protein high because your body burns significantly more energy digesting protein than carbs or fat.

- Protein has a TEF of ~20-30%
- Carbs have a TEF of ~5-10%
- Fat has a TEF of ~0-3%

4️⃣ EAT — 5%Exercise activity thermogenesis. The smallest piece. That doesn't mean don't train. Train to build muscle, improve your performance and heart health, and have a higher quality of life.

If you want to get lean and eat more, your non-exercise movement and the way you eat will move the needle far more than the workout itself. AND building muscle & improving your fitness will increase your BMR over time.

My go to “fancy” meal prep recipe.

When I have more time to meal prep, this is my favorite recipe to make. And when I say more time, I mean 45 minutes for one dish. But this lasts DAYS.

A super easy 1 pot pasta. Use the recipe in the video as a framework, not exact because you can adapt this recipe to your calorie and macro needs.

But you’ll need:
- dry pasta noodles
- tomato sauce
- tomato paste or harissa paste
- lean meat
- veggies
- seasonings

Adding greek yogurt makes it Turkish Pasta… this is a viral trend my wife introduced me to and I’m hooked.

This recipe is a repost, which I wasn’t planing to repost. I had planned a video in my “How to eat more and get lean” series, BUT forgot my mics at home. So I will make that video later and you get to enjoy this video again… or watch it for the first time…. Or experience it like it was the first time because it’s been 10 weeks since I posted it. Either way, make this!

I’m telling you this because life will constantly get in the way of plans you make. But if you have system, it won’t matter because you’ll be ready to adapt so you can still hit your goals. Whether it’s life plans, business plans, or health & fitness plans…. You need a system that allows you to be consistent and adaptable. If you need help building one, make sure to follow me.
