Orry's Story

Hello everyone - it’s me, Orry! After 3+ months at college, I have decided my real career aspirations are to return back to my family and take care of them! It was a hard decision but I feel very good about it! Mom and dad are over the moon - so proud of me for my hard work and happy to have me home too!

I’ll drop you a line every now and then!

Orry Update!

Hi Family!
It’s me again from Guide Dog College. Hope you are doing well. I have been busy practicing all my new skills. So far, I successfully learned how to cross streets safely, stop for curbs and make left and right turns! The work is getting even more challenging, and sometimes my instructor wears a blindfold when she is working with me.

I still get to have fun during the times I’m not out training. I get to play with my friends in the kennels. I also get daily enrichment activities whether it’s playtime, nice walk around the campus or even a nice massage from the kennel staff with a little aroma therapy and smooth jazz music playing in the background. It’s like a spa day! Miss you but have more to learn.

Update from Orry!!!

Hello all - Sherrie here, posting on Orry's behalf. We just returned Orry back to Guide Dogs of America|Tender Loving Canines where he will start his journey on the guide dog track! He was very, very excited to be there! Also, a big thanks to his sponsors, the Knisely Family Foundation for his sponsorship while a puppy in training - we truly appreciate your generosity. And a big thanks to you, his followers, for cheering him on over the last 15 months!

I am sharing a few pictures from today, but have also included one from puppy pick up day (7/1/2022). I will post updates as I have them. We will surely miss this very special pup - and are so proud of Orry and excited to see where his future takes him ❤️

Fun morning! We went to Arboretum and saw beautiful plants, people and animals! I got to practice my obedience and even made friends with a peacock!!! It was an awesome way to spend the day - enjoy the pix!

Big day today for me! First I went with mom to the hair salon! Mom’s hair stylist said I had a beautiful coat! She also wished me well in college! Next, my sister Ohana came over to play and give me a fun send off! Can you tell which pup is me ?

Only 2 more days and I am college bound! It’s getting real!

Today I accompanied mom and dad to get their flu AND COVID vaccines! I sat calmly with each of them so they weren’t scared — they did great!!! 4 more days and I’m off for college! Yippee 🥳

Thank you all for your feedback on my Halloween costume - I went as super pup and was quite the hit! But not only me, lots of my other friends in training dressed up and we had so much fun! We also practiced our obedience, working around other dogs, and walking up and down stairs. Be sure to enjoy the pix!

Today was also extra special because it was my last area meeting as a puppy in training! 6 more days and I go in for formal training - so psyched!!! Everybody wished me well and I got lots of extra hugs and cuddles. Such a great day ❤️

I need your help friends! I just tried on a bunch of different Halloween costumes and can’t decide what is my favorite!

Please let me know your favorite ! I’m dressing up tomorrow for our area outing! Am I a Superpup (well, yeah!!!), pirate, clown (that too), or do I have a cat on my back?

Did somebody say pickleball? This morning I had my first lesson and I was amazing! Mom, dad, and their pickleball instructor were out there on the court, hitting the ball back and forth, and I just watched!

Mom said MY lesson was to just hang out and settle — it was a blast! Too bad I don’t have opposable thumbs to hold the paddle - the game looked fun!
