Lori is extremely knowledgeable about exercise and movement as we age. I cannot thank her enough for her advice RE: hip bursitis. I was on the verge of having to give up my hiking in the hills, and biking, which I love. Lori advised me on the best stretching exercises and how to use ice after exercising. Thanks to Lori I am now back to my routine!
Lori was our guest at the San Fernando Valley Multiple Myeloma Support Group. She emphasized balance, strengthening our core and stretching. She was terrific!

When the pandemic hit Rachel Mouton, President and Founder of Chain of Events, she did everything in her power to arrange for classes at a senior apartment complex to continue on Zoom. All Valleys Aging Network (AVAN), Southern California’s Aging Services Network dedicated to quality, caring, and aging assistance for all, will feature a presentation By Lori on September 11, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Zoom.

“Safe Rehabilitative Exercises for Seniors in their Home” presentation will focus on how to start or restart a program at home after being quarantined during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lori will demonstrate exercises and movements as well as give helpful tips on household items that can be used in your program.

The presentation will be followed by leader-led networking.

In lieu of the usual AVAN meeting fee of $10 or $15, attendees are asked to donate to MAPS Charities organization, serving Los Angeles area seniors in need. Click here to donate via PayPal.

[09/03/20]   Swapping Sugar

The average American consumes 22 teaspoons of added sugar per day – a staggering amount, considering the American Heart Association recommends that women in particular limit their daily intake of added sugar to six teaspoons, and men to nine teaspoons.

It is not always that we consume sugary foods because of the taste. Often, we over-do it because the changes it creates in our body makes us crave more. Some research indicates it can be labeled as addictive.

Swap flavored yogurt with plain and fresh fruit. Swap sugary drinks for water or tea by adding fruit or a vegetable, such as cucumber. Add in spice such as cinnamon or mint. Swap sugary salad dressings that may also contain unnecessary fats, for a mixture of balsamic vinegar, feta and avocado.
The good news: Training yourself to prefer less sugary foods does not require a restrictive diet. It might take a little more time out of your day, but it is well worth it! By becoming aware of how sugar works in the body, where sugar lurks and recalibrating your taste buds, you can increase your energy and lower your disease risk.
