Trainer spotlight on @cassilsartist 💥💥 Cassils is a transgender artist who makes their own body the material and protagonist of their performances. Cassils's art contemplates the history(s) of LGBTQI+ violence, representation, struggle and survival. For Cassils, performance is a form of social sculpture: Drawing from the idea that bodies are formed in relation to forces of power and social expectations, Cassils work investigates historical contexts to examine the present moment.

As a trainer, Cassils is killer at injury prevention and rehabilitation as well as bodyweight workouts, strength training in bodybuilding, mobility and flexibility, and reaching targeted goals efficiently. Cassils is an x boxer from back in thr day and they’re currently working on mastering a free handstand (not there yet!). Their certifications include: ACE, NASM Training certifications, as well as NASM Corrective Exercise, Behavioral change specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist, pre and post natal + they’re currently enrolled in NASM Nutrition Cert!!

DM them directly to schedule training either socially distanced at the gym or via Zoom!

‘Tis the season for heightened body shaming and weight-related resolutions ❌ just a reminder that we are NOT THAT GYM! We are proudly anti-diet, pro-fat liberation, and committed to the belief that people are motivated to feel better in their bodies as they are! For connection! For fun! For exploration! That said, we are ALL so steeped in diet culture norms that food/weight/size-related comments may come up during Zoom class or a visit to the gym. A few ways you can lovingly but firmly assert a boundary, if you have the capacity and desire to:

a.) “I am here to feel better, not to compensate for what I ate or will eat."

b.) "Let's leave food-related talk out of our movement practice."

c.) “Please don't comment on my body
and/or my exercise practices.”

d.) *Ignore and walk away or log off*

CUTE, QUEER, INCLUSIVE + CLOSED THURSDAY + FRIDAY! We re-open Saturday at 10AM (one hour later than usual) both IRL and on Zoom. We will not be responding to DMs or posting stories the next two days because these eyes/thumbs need a break! Take care, y’all! 🖤🖤

“You’re the only gym I’ve ever felt comfortable in” is one of our most common and FAVORITE compliments 🎈🎈 Adaptability! Positivity! All bodies welcome space IRL and online!! Thanks for choosing to move with us, y’all. Our outdoor space is currently capped at 10 members at a time (for Covid safety) plus 2 bikes under the tented area for warming up while you wait. We are open regular hours today and tomorrow and closed Thursday and Friday. We re-open at 10AM PST on Saturday!! Take care

(Re)-introducing Thursday/Saturday Yoga teacher & community member @mxpujasingh 🖤✨🖤 In their own words: I will henceforth be known as Mx Puja Singh but you can still call me Puja. (Mx, pronounced mix or mux, is a gender neutral prefix, used just like Ms, Mrs, Mr.). My pronouns are they/them/theirs.

I am a queer, non-binary trans, Indian (Punjabi Sikh)-Canadian person currently living on unceded Chumash/Micqanaqa’n land. My life revolves around yoga and music. Yoga is such a vast system and there are many different practices that I incorporate into my life including meditation, mantra, pranayama, asana, philosophy and kirtan (Indian devotional chanting) to name a few. These practices keep me grounded in myself and help me to explore, play, learn and grow.

I have also been studying North Indian Classical Music for the past two years (formally) and have been studying and practicing music my whole life. My voice is my main instrument but I also play harmonium + piano, I’m learning to play the bansuri and I love to play around w any instruments I can get my hands on! 🎶

I am also a co-founder and 1/8 of @transyogaproject so please check out our work over there as well! 🏳️‍⚧️

drawings + words by @yumisakugawa 🖤🖤 at EVERYBODY we believe that boundary work and inner child work are body work, wellness is political, and everyone deserves space to move, strengthen & heal.

1. My boundaries are here for me not for you

2. My body never lies, my tears are never wrong, my inner spark never leads me astray

3. Experiment: place your hand on your heart and tell your inner child they are completely safe with you

A friendly reminder that not all masks are created equal when it comes to effectively protecting ourselves and those around us! At EVERYBODY, our policy is NO bandanas, NO valves (must be covered by a disposable or cloth mask), NO neck gaiters , and NO single-layer cloth masks. YES to 3-ply disposable masks, two or three-layer cloth masks, KN95 masks, and masks with insertable filters! Anyone who doesn’t have an approved mask on while at the gym will be given a disposable one by our front desk staff. Please help us alleviate unnecessary risk and anxiety by wearing a mask that works!!! Let’s take care of ourselves and one another while we are sharing space. Thank you!! 🖤🖤

[image description: All bodies are good bodies. All masks are not good masks. Wear a masks that works. Masks are a barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching people around you. A mask must be worn over the nose and mouth, and be snug on the sides
and under the chin in order to work effectively!]

YES our breezy outdoor gym is open!! @tunateeth with the reminder ➰ masks-on (OVER the nose) strictly enforced, total capacity is limited to 15 at one time, limited to one hour per guest, 6 feet distance between individuals not in a household. we have a hand washing station with water and soap, lots of disinfectant spray for equipment, and abundant hand sanitizer. 💥 and don’t forget! our unlimited online classes are still a fantastic option for making the most of your membership and staying connected to our wonderful community while staying safe at home!! download our app for super easy sign up. $5 drop in for non-members! 🖤🖤

LOOOVE to see our teachers taking classes from other teachers!! Choosing to uplift, support, and learn from one another! @jessicajadeyoga during Zumba with @camila.camaleon 🖤 Recently got a DM from a member who’s been doing Camila’s class with her mom while they are quarantined together. She said they both appreciate what a positive and enthusiastic teacher Camila is!

“I came home for a bit to cook and take care of my parents who both came out of retirement to help covid patients. They are both super depressed and I’ve been trying to find more fun activities as a distraction since it’s winter here. 😊 The zoom classes really opened up a lot more shy or unsure people who might not otherwise go to a gym try new things!”

We know there are a lot of online exercise options at this point in the pandemic and we are truly grateful for each person that signs up for a class with us!!! Thank you for keeping this small business alive! 💫

[video description: clip of @jessicajadeyoga dancing during Camila’s Saturday morning zumba class with rainbow filter, next class is Monday at 9AM PST and Jessica teaches at 11:30AM PST Sunday and 7PM PST Wed.!]

DID YOU KNOW that in addition to being our wonderful Assistant Manager who you may have emailed with, spoken with over the phone, or interacted with at the gym, Dee is ALSO a totally badass ceramicist who has her own business, @firesignstoneware!? All of her ceramics are thoughtfully made by hand in her backyard and are influenced by her Mexican and Japanese heritage, love for neutral colors, and view of pottery as a therapy and art. Her website is currently stocked with tons of gorgeous, ready-made planters, tumblers, candles, bowls, mugs + more! She also offers local pick up & delivery as well as domestic shipping!! We love you Dee!!

Saturday wisdom from @maryamhasnaa 💟💟 “Filling the body with light, releasing old energy and setting energy boundaries should be a daily practice like showering and getting dressed.”

Name & Gender Marker ID Clinic on Dec. 14th hosted by @tgijustice ➰ conducted remotely, anyone over the age of 18 residing in California is eligible! call 415-439-0397 or send an email to [email protected] to sign up for a slot. reposted from community member @missbarbieqla 🖤 i already went through this - and will be having a new name reveal soon once my papers have been approved! Share this with others please - it is one of the most liberating things you can do as a trans/non binary person!

NEW CLASS 💫 We’ve added a second chance to practice with the fabulous @jessicajadeyoga on Wednesdays at 7PM PST!! Class is recorded - if you can’t make it live, sign up anyways and you’ll have until midnight Thursday to replay it!

From an article featuring Jessica in @healthline: “bodies that are not typical/average and people of color need more representation in yoga and wellness in general.” Rihal is also an advocate of using props. In yoga, there’s a persistent myth that using props is “cheating,” or a sign of weakness. For many fat yoga practitioners, props can be great tools to help them get into certain poses. Because yoga has been dominated by thin people for so long, teacher training itself is focused on how to train thin bodies. Larger-bodied students may be forced into positions that go against the alignment or balance of their bodies. This can be uncomfortable, even painful. Rihal believes it’s important for instructors to know how to offer a modification for people who have large breasts or a belly. There are times when you might need to move your belly or breasts with your hands to get into the right position, and being shown how empowers people to get it right. As an instructor, Rihal wants to help people practice with the body they have now, and not send the usual message of, “Someday, you’ll be able to…”

Love a recent Mindbody review of Jessica’s Sunday class that says “I always feel so proud and at peace after this class.” 🖤🖤

trans week of awareness reflections from @cyn_trainer 🖤 “Being able to live and work while being out as trans is a privilege. Before EVERYBODY Gym, I trained in gyms that were confused by me. Many times I felt I had to push my trans identity aside in order to continue to do what I loved. I’ve now been training clients and teaching classes at EVERYBODY for 3 years, and this gym has consistently provided me with support and love and has always accepted me as a whole. It’s not just a place where we lift weights and sweat, it’s also a place of healing.” Check out our IGTV tab for a new video by Cyn on his favorite core moves - dynamic plank and dead bugs!

[image description: portraits of Cyn outside of and in front of the gym, temporary mask-less for photos - mask policy is strictly enforced!]

At EVERYBODY we believe that all bodies are good bodies, all bodies deserve access to affirming movement practices, and diet culture is toxic and harmful. We LOVE what our friends over at @superfithero are up to in combating fatphobia and creating comfortable clothes for fat bodies. They just announced they are creating ALL future clothes collections in sizes L-7XL or 12-42 to meet the needs of plus size athletes. The Super Fit Hero team is passionate about fat liberation, access and movement, their clothing is ethically-made in LA, and they have an amazing Body Positive Fitness Finder on their website. Highly recommend checking them out!!
