Rhonda Hutley Sensei will continue as Director of Children's Programs
We hope that you will join us in celebrating these changes. As always, we are thankful for your support, and look forward to continuing down the path of Aikido with you in 2022.

Dear Members,
In honor of Children's Day (May 5) in Japan, we shared some Japanese culture with all those who attended class -- see the attachment for the results. For those of you who had bad internet connections, or were not able to attend, we are sending instructions for making a Samurai Helmet (page 2 of attachment). Those who follow the instructions to make their own samurai helmet and send us a photo will get an extra class credit and will get their photo posted on our page. Feel free to be creative with the helmets or the models!
Hope to see you online soon!

Dear Members,
Here is the first installment of some online learning to keep aikido fresh in your mind during the hiatus. We present detailed, step-by-step explanations of some basic techniques, that relate to our current 5th and 4th kyu test requirements. This video was filmed in 2003 while we were in Miami. Students of all levels will benefit from this refresher -- it is sure to go viral! (sorry, couldn't resist the very bad pun...)

We will post intermittently during the next few weeks. Stay tuned --

Aikido Cultural Institute, Los Angeles - 5TH KYU TEST GUIDELINES In this video we provide detailed and step-by-step guidance for basic aikido techniques. First in a series of 2 videos filmed at our dojo in Miami in 2003.
Dear Members and Families,
In accord with Mayor Eric Garcetti's emergency action in response to COVID-19 tonight, ordering the close of gyms and fitness centers, we have decided to suspend classes at Aikido Cultural Institute until the end of the month. We do this with great regret, as we have dedicated ourselves to keeping the dojo open 365 days per year for the last 40 years. However we recognize our responsibility to do all in our power to maintain the health of our students and the wider community, and we will therefore comply with the Mayor's order in these exceptional circumstances. Our doors will be open during regular hours, if you feel the need to stop by to talk or for other support, but we will not be conducting classes until further notice.
In lieu of regular classes, we will explore ways to provide you with online or other supplemental content to keep your brain in training mode. There are many things you can do to train on your own during this period of hiatus, and feel free to stop by if you would like to pick up your weapons to do your own practice. Please know that all of you are in our minds, and we ask you to keep the dojo and your own aikido practice alive in your imagination during these unusual circumstances as well. We are looking forward to being able to come together to practice with you all once the risk of furthering the epidemic has passed.
As always, we are here to answer any concerns or questions you may have. Please stay healthy, and use this time to reconcentrate and gather your energies.

Dear Members,
After further consideration of new developments related to COVID-19, we have decided to postpone today's test for 3 weeks, until Sunday, April 5, 2020. We know that many of you have prepared very hard for the test today, but we believe that this is the best course to take in order to safeguard the health of our members and their families as much as possible. We are looking forward to having all of you test when more of our members will be able to attend and observe your strong performances.
We will also be sending a revised class schedule later today.
We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this evolving environment with the well-being of all our members foremost in our minds.
