So many thoughtful comments popping up on this article.
www.latimes.com For many years, Berkeley bike advocates have pushed for their own lane on a two-block stretch of Fulton Street. The conditions seem ripe for one. It would connect two existing bike lanes in a bustling area between UC Berkeley and downtown. Bike racks already line the sidewalk.

L.A. is finally on a bike bender—a perfect time for a conversation on "urban revolution" with former NYC transportation commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and Los Angeles Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne. Join us on March 16:
Its a hefty report that takes some effort to interpret but here are some of the bullet points. You can download the reports here too.
• Large cities have seen bicycling grow 71 percent from 2007 to 2016.
• Women are vastly outnumbered by men, making up just 29 percent of commuters who bike.
• Commuters of color represent a higher percentage of those who walk and use public transit.
• There’s been a continued uptick in fatalities for people who walk or bike — especially among low-income, seniors and people of color populations.
• In almost all states, commuters with low income represent a higher percentage of those who walk and use public transit.
• Infrastructure for biking and walking makes a difference. Protected bike lanes have been shown to increase biking levels between 21–171 percent, says the report. 50 percent for all states.
www.bicycleretailer.com WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN) — The Alliance for Biking & Walking released its biennial report on Bicycling and Walking in the U.S. Wednesday. The 198-page report compiles data from all 50 states, the 50 most-populous U.S. cities and 18 additional cities.

washingtonpost.com Cars take up too much space and pose health risks. We could do without them.
Suggestion. Stop making cars that can drive 3X faster than any North American speed limit already! Not to mention that the commercials for the Dodge Charger basically encourages this kind of behavior.
abc7.com Three people were killed and several were in critical condition after a street race led to a multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig on the 5 Freeway in Commerce, the California Highway Patrol said.
In May the Expo Line to Santa Monica will be up and running and a trip between Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles will only take 46 minutes by rail. We are slowly on our way to regaining the public transportation options comparable to the ones that we dismantled in the 1950s!
laist.com Not since 1953 has a train connected Santa Monica to downtown L.A.
The Danish capital Copenhagen already has 40 percent of it's residents commuting by bike but they aim to be COMPLETELY carbon neutral by 2025. In a continued effort to do so the city’s latest Intelligent Transport Systems Action Plan will start installing new traffic signals that prioritize bike and bus traffic and further decrease commute times.
Show Offs!
www.wired.com By the end of this year, Copenhagen wants to cut down bus travel times by five to 20 percent, and cycling travel times by 10 percent.
Hell to the yes! "If we’re going to subsidize one form of low-carbon transportation, it only seems fair to look seriously at subsidizing the most low-carbon form of transportation".
Air Resources Board Bike Rebate Petition
The California Bicycle Coalition, along with several coalition partners, presented a new idea to the California Air Resources Board (ARB). The ARB distributes funds for the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program, which offers rebates for electric vehicles; we're asking them to expand their rebate program to include the cleanest vehicle of all: the bicycle.
grist.org California bike people want to change the state's clean-vehicle rebate rules so their preferred rides can get a share of the public cash.
