Shoot for the moon and you’ll land on the stars.

We have big, lofty goals for this season.

Go Undefeated.
Win CIF.
Win State.

We walk by faith, not by sight.

God has been protecting this group of young men and coaches since Day1.

We are 100% aligned in our collective team goals and the hard work it’s going to take to get there.

I’m grateful God has placed me in a position to coach young men like Lukas and to lead this basketball program.

Thank you Jesus.

The older I get, the more I realize how rare it is to have real friends.

Not work friends.

Not school friends.

Not proximity friends.

But friends who are really with you every step of the way.

In every season of life, they never abandon you.

I’ve been fortunate.

God didn’t give me any biological brothers…

But I have real friends who have been brothers to me in every sense of the word.

The best thing my friends have done to me over the years is told me the truth.

The truth hurts.

It’s supposed to.

That’s why people lie.

To soften the pain of the truth.

Which in turn, only makes things worse.

The Bible backs this:

“Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Kisses from snakes only complicate your life.

I’ll take the painful truth over a feel good lie every single time.

I’m out the pond.

Y’all stay true.

I’m so grateful and appreciative that I get to coach this group and lead this program.

Thank you Jesus.

This was the most competitive practice we’ve had all year.

We play 5s to 11.

Game has to end on 2 made free throws.

Team White was down 10-1 and came all the way back.

Team Green had 5 chances to win it at the line.

This is how it ended…

Ask any person who you deem successful how they got there and you will find one common theme…

Discipline.

Discipline is making sure you touch every line on sprints.

Discipline is ending your workout with hitting 100 free throws.

Discipline is making sure all of your assignments are turned in.

Discipline is making your bed everyday.

Discipline is making the choice to do the right thing that’s going to get you closer to your goals.

Everyone dreams of being of successful.

Success has a price.

There ain’t no scholarships.

There ain’t no loans.

You have to be disciplined with everything you do every single day.

You can’t just do it for a season.

You have to be disciplined for the rest of your life.

Undisciplined people spend time making excuses.

Undisciplined people stir up drama.

Undisciplined people spend their time talking about others.

None of that is going to get you the life God has for you.

Show up how every single day no matter what and Jesus will take care of the rest.

Commit to being disciplined.

I’m out the pond.

Y’all stay true.

All of our practices are open to members of the St. Bonaventure community.

Students, parents, teachers, administrators, alumni are all welcome to attend practice.

I really enjoy the supportive energy that the Seraph community brings.

My favorite aspect of having an open practice is having everyone join in prayer.

We are all going through something.

Most of our battles are unseen and unheard.

Prayer allows Jesus to come in and conquer whatever it is we are dealing with.

Some people have went their entire lives and never had a man pray with them.

I never want anyone who attends our practices to be able to say that.

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Coaches - Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Comment in the comments.

I wanna know.

Great teams are great at guarding ball screens.

Every coach I talk to defends them differently.

Some choose drop coverage.

Some blitz.

Some hedge.

Some switch.

Some base it off personnel.

We will install our ball screen coverage in the next couple of weeks.

Right now, I’ve been observing what comes natural to them and making instant adjustments.

As a coach, you have to study your team’s current baseline knowledge of universal basketball principles before you implement your own.

Coach pointed out an instant adjustment that needed to be taught and I backed her on that.

Young players - Regardless of what your team’s ball screen philosophy is, you need to know how to guard shooters vs non-shooters.

As a coach, God has giving me a gift of being able to see potential in players that they can’t see in themselves.

So my standards are always exceptionally high for them.

In their mind, sometimes what I’m asking for is unattainable.

But every time I raise the bar, they surpass it.

It’s my job to keep pushing and challenging them.

And to keep them confident during learning curves.

Everytime we install something new, I know there’s going to be growing pains.

And that’s ok.

It’s a little frustrating.

Not because they aren’t comprehending it.

But because I know what they are capable of and I’m being impatient.

In those moments, I grow as well.

Patience is a virtue.

And as a coach, patience has to be my best friend.

In this video, I give my thoughts behind a drill that took us 26 minutes to do last week.

Today, we got it done in 10 minutes.

I’m really proud of them.

I’m out the pond.

Yall stay true.

🏀 The Best Shooting Team In California.

I’ve never coached a team with this many guys that can hit multiple threes in a game.

They all work relentlessly on their shots.

They have great discipline with their shot mechanics.

And they shoot with confidence.

We will have a lot of games where we hit 10-15 threes as a team.

We have multiple guys that can hit 6-10 threes on their own.
