multiple streams of peace. multiple streams of joy. multiple streams of happiness. 🌼

01/01/2021

more love, more laughter, more deep connections, more focused on who I’m being and who I’m becoming ✨ happy new year.

10/20/2020

every day we are presented with two choices: evolve or repeat ✨

happy Monday folks, hope your week ahead is bright ☀️

10/06/2020

the other day, I found myself soo irritated. nothing was going as planned. I then reminded myself of Romans 8:28:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“And we know in all things, God works for the good of those who love him...”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
translation:
“Know for a big fact, if you ride with him He got you”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I was reminded just how everything is working in my favor. Even when things are falling apart, they are creating room for greater things to come together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Refuse to let your circumstances or past distract you of any opportunities or blessings that have been lined up for you in the future.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Repeat after me: EVERYthing is working in my favor ✨

2 common mistakes I made when I first started working out...

▫️Doing a random number of reps.
ultimately how many reps and sets you do will depend on 2 things: your goal + where you are you are in your weight training journey. If your goal is to gain size aka build muscle, you wanna aim for less reps (8 or fewer) and constantly challenge your muscles (aka lift heavier, safely). It is OK to mix and match the number of reps depending on the exercise. but more reps does not always equal better.

▫️Not fueling your body before and after workouts.
I think protein gets all the attention so let's hype carbs for being GOOD for progress real quick. Carbs are your body's preferred source of fuel. Your body will use carbs before your workout as fuel and carbs after your workout to restore glycogen levels. Theres zero need to deprive yourself of carbs lol you can instead make use of them.

My 800 calorie diet...

was my introduction to proper nutrition. I remember so clearly my freshman year of high school thinking, “if I eat less I’ll lose weight” so naturally that meant reducing my calories. (I was like 113lbs then, what weight I was tryna lose..idk. Thats a story for another day).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anyway. 800 calories was the magic number I came up with after reading articles and clearly minimal knowledge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I did it, for a full day I ate 800 calories only + drank like 3 coke zeros to fight cravings 🥴 and the next day? I skipped school lol.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I woke up with the worst headache and I knew exactly why... restricting calories was a no for me. Ya girl likes to eat and thats one thing that hasnt changed since. So I started learning about nutrition labels and ingredients.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It took me a few more years to really figure it out. And when I did, I learned:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▫️That I needed to eat smarter not less
▫️How to eat anything without feeling guilty or needing to “work it off” in my workouts later
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you find yourself in either of those mind frames or haven’t quite figured out how to eat for your goals, then my Physique 101 series might be for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Starting next week, I’ll be sharing a 3 part series on the 3 things you need to do to change your physique *healthily*. You guessed it, nutrition is one of them (minus the restrictive eating habits).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My hope is this lil series simplifies your approach to nutrition and fitness journey overall ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Series starts next week. Sign up for my mailing list via the link in my bio to get all the info straight to your email ✨

When I first started my fitness journey, I was motivated by changing how my body looks. You know, wanting abs, a slimmer waist, etc. Did that. (The abs come and go though 🤷🏾‍♀️).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
& then I realized the best thing to come out of making healthier choices and working out wasnt a physical transformation. But what happens on the inside.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My habits changed.
My mindset changed.
The relationship I have with my body changed. (I got a deeper appreciation for what it does. Bc of that I love it in every stage.. thick, lean, whatever).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Choosing to live a healthier lifestyle isn’t *only* about how I look but knowing what I’m capable of.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is something in knowing that every day you are unlocking a newer, stronger, badass(er?) version of yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This journey today focuses on just that. And I show up every time bc that feels pretty damn good to me. ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why do you work out?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PS. There is nothing wrong with (healthily) using body composition to measure success. I still do that. It is math, it is science lol, it will always make sense. @ Indiana

I read this tweet that said
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You say “not all cops” but all cops dont say “not all black people” and this is the issue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We cannot normalize innocent lives being taken while we watch it from our phone screens.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Silence never brought about justice either.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For all my non black folks - understand the position you’re in. It is not about what you have and what others don’t. It’s about what you have at the expense of what has been ripped away from others. Educate yourself on systemic oppression and racism in America (swipe). You’d be surprised just how much isn’t taught in schools (see: systemic oppression, again).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a start. Not a call for you to feel sorry or guilt. I’m a big believer in change starts within us, our circles, the conversations we have with others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am tireddddd. And need to unplug from the news and social media for a while. Self care Saturday has been extend till Tuesday. @ Los Angeles
