There’s something about this time of year that makes me look at life differently.

I realize that so much of what we lose sleep over was never worth losing a moment of our life for.

Because life moves quietly.

Your kids get a little older while you’re busy getting through the week. Your parents age while you still picture them the way they’ve always been. People you thought would always be there become memories. And somehow, the years you thought you had so much of start passing faster than you ever imagined.

And that changes what matters.

You stop needing to be understood by everyone.
You stop proving your heart to people committed to misunderstanding it.
You stop giving your peace away just to win an argument.

And the ordinary things suddenly become the things you’re most afraid of taking for granted.

Your kids laughing in the other room.
A hug you didn’t know you needed.
Your body carrying you through another day.
People you love still sitting around the same table.
Another morning God allowed you to wake up and be here.

Maybe that’s what autumn keeps trying to remind us.

Everything changes. Everything has its time. And nothing we love gets to stay exactly the way it is forever.

So take the picture. Stay a little longer. Say I love you. Put the phone down. Forgive yourself. Let the small things go. Be present!

And thank God for what’s here while it’s still here.

Because one day, you may look back and realize the life you kept waiting to begin…

was the life you were already living. 🍂
