My daughter is 13, and right now she is NOT happy with me because I donā€™t let her have social media. šŸ˜…

She asks me almost every day.

But I strongly believe that the longer I can keep her away from social media, the better.

Recently, so many women have been writing to me:

ā€œLiene, youā€™re so lucky to have a husband like him.ā€

But ladiesā€¦ after 20 years together, I can tell you: this is not luck.

I donā€™t believe you just ā€œget luckyā€ and somehow end up with a beautiful marriage for 20 years.

I believe in choosing each other.
Again and again.

I believe in having the uncomfortable conversations.
In learning how to communicate when youā€™re angry.
In forgiving.
In growing up together.
In changing yourself instead of constantly trying to change the other person.

Weā€™ve had beautiful years, and weā€™ve had years when our marriage was seriously tested.

The man you see beside me today and the relationship we have today are the result of 20 years of both of us building it.

And maybe thatā€™s the part we donā€™t talk about enough.

You donā€™t find a perfect relationship.

You build one.

Iā€™ve had to learn this the hard way:

The woman who knows how to build a successful business cannot always bring the same energy into her marriage.

In business, Iā€™m used to making decisions. Solving problems. Taking responsibility. Seeing what needs to be done and getting it done.

And sometimes that energy follows me home. šŸ˜…

But my husband is not my employee.

He doesnā€™t need me to manage him, correct him, or explain how I would do everything differently.

After 20 years together, Iā€™ve learned that I can be a strong woman without needing to be in control of everything.

I can have an opinion and still give him space to decide.

I can be powerful in my business and soft in my marriage.

I can trust without becoming smaller.

And no, I donā€™t always get it right. Sometimes my ā€œCEO modeā€ comes home with me. šŸ¤­

But Iā€™ve realized that peace in a relationship doesnā€™t come from proving who is right, smarter, or more capable.

It comes from knowing when to lead ā€” and when to let go.
