We celebrate these two men every June 4. Both had wonderful positive influences on many, especially me. Hail Duke Llewellyn and John R. Wooden. They went to Heaven together on June 4. The legacy they left on college basketball in the Wooden Award program is good for the game and those who play, watch and coach it.

Announces 2019-20 Menâs All American Team
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 1, 2020) â The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the 2020 John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendyâs All American Team during ESPNâs SportsCenter today. The Wooden Award All American Team is comprised of ten student athletes who were the top vote-getters in the quest to earn college basketballâs most prestigious honor. The ten-player team, alphabetically, consists of: Udoka Azubuike (Kansas), Devon Dotson (Kansas), Malachi Flynn (San Diego State), Luka Garza (Iowa), Markus Howard (Marquette), Filip Petrusev (Gonzaga), Myles Powell (Seton Hall), Payton Pritchard (Oregon), Obi Toppin (Dayton), and Cassisus Winston (Michigan State). The five finalists for the 2020 John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendyâs are: Azubuike, Garza, Howard, Powell, and Toppin.
Voting took place from March 16-23, 2020. As insisted upon by Coach Wooden at the Awardâs creation 44 years ago, all players were certified by their universities as meeting or exceeding the criteria of the John R. Wooden Award. The 44th annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award to the menâs most outstanding college basketball player will take place Tuesday, April 7, during the 5 p.m. ET edition of SportsCenter on ESPN.

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women, The Wooden Award All American Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Eight years ago today we lost two great men who contributed mightily to the people of Los Angeles and the game of basketball. They were close friends and both passed on this same day unknowingly to one another that the other was on their way to heaven.
