Crescent Moon Karate will be CLOSED on Monday in observance of Memorial Day as we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

We encourage all of our CMK families to take this time to reflect, spend time with loved ones, and appreciate those who have served our country with courage and honor.

Classes will resume on Tuesday.

Today, the Crescent Moon Karate family joins our extended martial arts community in mourning the passing of Hanshi Harry R. Haag, 9th Dan.

We send our deepest condolences to Shihan Herbster, the entire Rising Sun Karate Academy family, and all of Hanshi Haag’s family, friends, students, and fellow martial artists whose lives he impacted so deeply.

Hanshi Haag was far more than a highly respected martial artist — he was a teacher, mentor, guide, and steward of traditional karate. Those fortunate enough to train with him knew his incredible depth of knowledge, wisdom, humility, and passion for the arts. Every interaction I had with him carried a lesson. Every conversation left an impact that I cherish to today.

While many of our students may never have had the opportunity to meet him personally, his teachings live on through our lineage, our curriculum, and the generations of martial artists he helped shape. His influence quietly reaches far beyond what most will ever realize.

A martial artist’s true legacy is not only in rank or recognition, but in the character, discipline, and knowledge passed forward to others. Hanshi Haag’s legacy will continue through every student, every dojo, and every instructor touched by his wisdom.

We are deeply saddened by his passing and honor the life of a man who gave so much to the martial arts community.

Rest in peace, Hanshi Harry R. Haag.
