Honoring LMUs two seniors, this team has preservered. After LMU’s massive college team cuts, this D1 program and the 10 girls that were left after cutting 135 athletes many of their teammates, this team carried the torch and ran on behalf of all those cut athletes who should all be competing this year. These girls were amazing. Thanks for representing! A huge thank you to Head Coach Chloe Curtis and Coach John Pickhaver for building back these athletes and keeping this going. Forever LMU sports!

Loyola Marymount made a tough choice to drop 6 sports – will similar universities follow suit? 09/18/2024

Well somethings remained consistent. Craig Pintens continued his career of contradicting himself, changing his story about his cutting of the athletes.

He gave zero scholarships and money to most these sports. He underfunded these sports and despite the lack of resources and poorer treatment, they still performed and enhanced LMU. These athletes and cut sports gave back to the University far more than what the University gave to them in the form of resources. In fact is was the opposite, their tuition money alone brought in millions to this school and their spirits and community presence gives far more than the team sports where students just transfer year after year with no loyalty to LMU. Is it really the best policy to put all this money into student athletes who don’t stay at LMU?

Pintens had one thing in mind. His own career and basketball. This destroyed a culture at a student centered University and promotes a selfish road map which was supported by President Snyder who is just as guilty. President Snyder has one sports picture in his office. It’s of the LMU basketball team.

This agenda President Snyder is short sighted and basketball, swimming, running and rowing could have remained symbiotic. The Olympics just showed us how these sports are top rated. The Olympics are coming to LA. Great job cutting the most beloved and successful sports within the Olympic movement. You cut future lawyers, doctors, teachers and business men and women. You cut Alumni and donors and history. Craig Pintens, this is a case study of what not to do. You preemptively cut sports for an opt in program and your main reasoning did not come true. Other Universities should not follow suit. There is no need.

These athlete have suffered due to LMU’s actions. These sports did not have to be cut and LMU will forever live in shame. Shame on you LMU!!!! You destroyed dreams, loyalty and stopped high achieving athletes from achieving their goals…..President Snyder and the LMU board should be accountable.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation into LMU over potential Title IX violations, particularly for discrimination against female student-athletes in LMU Athletics.

This comes just months after LMU announced it would be cutting six sports, directly impacting 118 student-athletes. 81 of which were women.

The subjects of these violations include coaching, per diem, publicity, and recruitment.

Save LMU Sports is disappointed in the university but not surprised. We will not accept the wrongful termination of our sports, especially by an institution that has allegedly violated our nation’s Civil Rights laws that have been in place for over half a century.

The U.S. The Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has opened a Title IX investigation into LMU for potential discrimination against female student-athletes on the basis of s*x. We are grateful for the swift manner in which the OCR has opened this investigation and for the seriousness in which it is treating these allegations. It’s our hope that this latest episode in the turmoil clouding LMU Athletics will lead to meaningful and lasting change for all athletes.

Hi, my name is Lauren Wagner and I am one of the 118 student-athletes cut by LMU Athletics.

I started running in junior high, and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the sport. As I continued to progress in running, I made it my mission to run cross country and track at a Division-I institution. Competing with LMU across my chest has been the highlight of my running career.

I’m from Califon, New Jersey but LMU is my home. I started my college career at another school that turned out not to be a good fit for me. My journey to the Bluff makes me appreciate LMU even more, knowing that it almost wasn’t a part of my life. LMU gave me a second chance to live out my running dreams while pursuing what I’m passionate about in academics.

I completed my undergraduate studies last fall with a degree in Health and Human Sciences, but still had a year of athletic eligibility remaining. My issue was that LMU didn’t offer the graduate degree I wanted, so I made the difficult decision to commit to another university to finish out my athletic career and continue my studies. I was set to enroll at the new school in January 2024, but over the December holidays, the reality of no longer being a Lion hit me hard. I knew in my heart that I couldn’t leave. So I stayed, and decided to study something else while I finish out my athletic eligibility.

A lot of people thought it was difficult to come back. It was not. I have been on a number of teams over my running career, but nothing compares to the community we have built here. It’s very special, and I can’t see myself anywhere else.

But then, a couple weeks after returning to LMU, the athletic director announced the program cuts. Even after knowing that, I would still change nothing about my decision. This is where I belong. This team, Coach Curtis, Coach Pick, they’re my family. My entire running journey has led me here. And I’m prepared to put all my energy – all of my Big Cat Energy – into reinstating this program and saving my team.
