Gojushiho Sho is considered an advanced kata in Shotokan, Sensei Nishiyama used to refer to it as an "old man" kata.
It translate 54 steps, or the old Chinese name 54 methods.
Kata is "symbol of principle" meaning the kata contain a code which we have to undo, rather then mechanically copy the outer form, even perfectly.
Form is important, yet it is a mean and not an end.
