READ MORE-To bow. “Rei” 礼 in Japanese means to show gratitude. In the martial way, it has deeper levels of meaning…
When you step onto the mat, we bow not just as a gesture, but as a passage into a sacred space, where the air hums with the spirit of discipline and respect. The bow is a bridge between the world of the ordinary and the realm of Jiu Jitsu where ego dissolves and only truth remains.
As we lower our head, we humble ourselves before those who have come before us, the masters whose wisdom flows through every movement. We acknowledge the mat itself, the ground where countless struggles have unfolded, where sweat has mingled with the breath of effort. This simple act of reverence ties us to a lineage that transcends time, a lineage that whispers in every throw, submission and every tap.
In the bow, we honor our opponent, not as an adversary, but as a partner in this dance of strength and spirit. It is a silent promise that, together, we will seek growth, sharpen our skills, and discover the depths of our potential. The bow is to be present, the beginning and the end, the circle that holds the essence of Jiu Jitsu within its embrace.
So, as we bow, we enter with an open heart, ready to learn, ready to give, and ready to honor the art that has been entrusted to me. Etiquette, Honor, roots, tradition, respect, loyalty for life not for points Jiu Jitsu the way the late master Helio Gracie intended it to be
READ MORE-**The Importance of Meditation for Children**
In our fast-paced world, children are often exposed to a constant stream of stimuli that can impact their mental and emotional well-being. As a life long martial artist and teacher, I’ve delved into the effects of meditation on the brain and found compelling evidence supporting its benefits for young minds.
Meditation helps children develop focus, emotional regulation, and resilience. By engaging in regular mindfulness practices, children learn to direct their attention and manage distractions more effectively. This heightened focus can translate into better academic performance and more meaningful social interactions.
Emotionally, meditation teaches children to recognize and process their feelings. This self-awareness fosters empathy and reduces stress and anxiety. By providing a calm space for reflection, meditation equips children with tools to handle life’s challenges with greater ease and confidence.
Research shows that meditation can positively affect brain areas responsible for attention, emotion regulation, and empathy. These benefits are not only immediate but can also contribute to healthier developmental trajectories.
Incorporating meditation into daily routines, even for a few minutes, can have profound effects on a child’s overall well-being. By nurturing their minds through mindfulness, we can help children thrive in a complex world, laying the foundation for a balanced and fulfilling life. This is our mission at Zenki.

Royce Gracie hunted a deer to feed all of us! Legend was.. Kenny apparently wrestled it down, quadruple legged it, while skinned it and saved some of the deer skin to make a kimono. came out with spears and arrows out of nowhere while dressed like braveheart. John Solana made sure the deer was properly dry rubbed and cooked. Since they’re from LA, V and Tim, obviously vegans, cried and was saddened for the deers family but still had seconds of the deer burger 🍔 maybe even thirds the way the late master Helio Gracie intended it to be thank you
