This is the problem with boxing these days.

All of a sudden, Moses Itauma is a hype job because he lost to Filip Hrgović. He’s 21 years old, he dominated the majority of the fight and he came up against a very tough, very experienced heavyweight who found a way to stop him.

And now people are writing him off. You honestly can’t win sometimes in boxing.

If you build a fighter up towards a big fight, people say, “He’s fighting nobodies.” But if you put him in a world level fight early in his career and he loses, suddenly he was never any good.

What do you actually want? Itauma is obviously a brilliant fighter. One loss doesn’t change that.

He’s still 21, he’s still learning, and he’s just experienced something that most fighters go through at some point in their careers and that’s a really tough night against a top level opponent.

There’s no shame in that whatsoever. He has a huge future in this sport and this loss will make him an even better fighter.
