Our hearts are with the victims and all those affected by last night’s horrific mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, and we must stand together and denounce hate & violence against the LGBTQ+ community—not just today, but everyday.

Commitment to Community
The LAPD formally established its Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Outreach Program in the early 1990s. Since then, the LAPD LGBTQ Outreach team continues to work with the community to find ways to build trust between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community by developing policies (such as our 2012 policy entitled “Police Interactions with Transgender Individuals), implementing LGBTQ cultural competency in-service training, and providing programming (such as our LAPD Safe Place program) under the leadership of Assistant Chief Beatrice M. Girmala, director of the Office of Special Operations and the Department LGBTQ Outreach Coordinator.
