We are so so proud of our performers from our performance workshop showcase this past weekend!!! Here are some highlights from the Saturday show in partnership with Cirque Party, LLC.

Guided by coaches Nafeesa Islam │ Aerialist Arisa Gabe Hilden-Reid - Aerial Coach, these aerialists all choreographed their own pieces. We loved watching these aerialists’ artistry emerge and their visions come to life!

Congratulations on a great show! 💐

Similar combo, 12+ years apart! 🥹 Who remembers the very early days of Aerial Physique?

I started Aerial Physique in 2012, tucked into the corner of this very Pilates studio in Santa Monica, with a handful of students, two silks and very low ceilings.

I wanted to create an experience that felt uplifting and positive, regardless of someone’s movement background. I had recently finished a performance contract and come out of a challenging chapter in my life, so creating something inspiring, encouraging and enjoyable felt especially meaningful.

And one of the biggest things I’ve learned since then?

Consistency wins🥇

I know, not exactly the most exciting takeaway! 🫠 But truly, it all adds up over time.

Keep showing up. Keep doing the thing. Keep putting in the work, even when no one is watching, no one is clapping and it feels like nothing is happening. That goes for business AND your art!

And when life happens along the way, or an injury forces you to take some time off, try not to get mad at yourself for it. Breaks are necessary too. Take the time you need, then when you’re ready, come back and keep going. ❤️

You don’t always notice the progress while you’re in it. Then one day, you look back at where you were 12+ years ago and realize just how far you’ve come. ✨

🧹 7-Minute Broomstick Core Warm-Up!

The broomstick isn’t just a festive prop. 🎃 It can help support posture, wake up your grip, improve shoulder mobility and give you a little extra leverage to challenge your stabilizers without overdoing it before training.

🧙‍♀️ All you need is a broomstick and about 7 minutes, so let’s get moving!

✨ A few tips as you go:
• Imagine pulling the broomstick apart to activate your shoulders and upper back.
• Keep your ribs drawing toward your hips to stay connected through your core.
• Hold it with intention, but avoid over-gripping so you don’t tire out your forearms too early.

🔥 Broomstick Core Warm-Up Sequence:

1️⃣ Cross your ankles and lower down without using your hands.
2️⃣ Seated roll-backs × 5. On the 5th, add 5 arm lifts.
3️⃣ Twists × 3 each side with a long spine.
4️⃣ Leg extensions × 8 with the broomstick behind you.
5️⃣ Pilates 100s, half set: 50 arm pumps, breathing in for 5 and out for 5.
6️⃣ Scissors × 10 alternating.
7️⃣ Glute bridges × 5 with arms reaching up.
8️⃣ Single-leg glute bridges × 5 each side.
9️⃣ Hollow-body half rolls × 5 + side-lying “C” lifts × 5.
🔟 Rolling like a ball × 5 with alternating leg extensions.

✅ Finish by crossing your ankles and standing up without using your hands.

👽 Technique Tip: Alien Split

It looks interesting, but it can feel disorienting at first! The biggest keys are understanding where each leg goes and keeping a strong, supported shoulder position.

🧘‍♀️ Start on the floor:
From a lunge, tuck one arm under your front leg, bend your arms to about 90°, and reach the legs strongly away from one another while keeping your chest forward.

🦵Leg Pathway:
One leg passes through the center of your arms while the other travels to the outside, reaching toward your upper arm/tricep.

From there, extend both legs away from one another and aim for a long, nearly parallel split line.

✔️ The steps:
Option to wrap your wrists for a little extra support while learning.

1️⃣ Invert into a frog around one arm.
2️⃣ One leg passes through the center, the other stays outside.
3️⃣ Reach the outside leg toward your upper arm/tricep.
4️⃣ Internally rotate your arms and squeeze them toward your sides.
5️⃣ Stay active through your shoulders.
6️⃣ Extend both legs away from one another: think back, not up with the back leg.
7️⃣ Keep your head up and chest reaching forward.
8️⃣ Retrace your pathway to exit.

❌Common Mistakes

•Legs going the wrong directions:
One through the center + one outside toward the tricep.

•Collapsing through the shoulders:
Stay active through your arms and shoulders rather than sinking into the position, which can lead to arching and extra shoulder pressure.

•Back leg lifting too high:
Still a beautiful shape, just not the one we’re going for here! Think lengthen straight back, not up.

💫 Advanced Beat Entry
Once the static version feels solid try:

Front → back → front → back → front into Alien Split

From your beats with straight arms and legs, pass one leg through the center and the other outside. Lift up and over as you rotate into the Alien Split, reach your chest forward and extend your legs away from one another.

This beat entry was part of the Curse act Nafeesa Islam │ Aerialist and I created last year! 👻

Happy splitting! 👽
