Wow, I just found your page and I just wanted to say I love your mission! Weightlifting is a huge passion for me & I love seeing kids get their hands on a bar. Showing them they can move heavy things with their bodies translates to all other areas of their lives & those lessons are hard to teach outside of the gym or playing fields. Do you fundraise or accept donations? Is there a need in the gym like wraps or chalk?
Disciplined Man, Greater Los Angeles Area, 22 - 35, tough guy look, a guy who is or used to be an MMA, boxer, wrestler, hockey player, ex-military to shave his head for a shaving service commercial. Physically and mentally very disciplined. Our guy feels he can do without hair because dealing with it gets in the way of his workout or work day. Shoots in Los Angeles date is TBD in June or July, 2019 and Flexible. Pays $500/flat for a non-union, all media buy-out. Please email a recent picture of yourself to [email protected] and write a little about your background or attach your resume. We will send you selfie audition instructions if you look right for this.
Hello, we wanted to share this video with your community. There are many more on our website, all free to watch!
Thank you!

About Kendrick:
Kendrick Farris began lifting when he was 12-years-old after his uncle, Kevin Burns, read an article in the newspaper about a weightlifting development center for young athletes.

Less than 10 years after his introduction to the sport, Farris won back-to-back National titles in 2006 and 2007 en route to qualifying for his first Olympic Team. Farris set two American Records at the Olympic Games in Beijing where he placed eighth, and e would also go on to make the 2012 Olympics held in London where he placed tenth. About Derrick:

This past weekend we had a great time at a fundraiser for our program thrown by @paradisocommunity. We had almost 60 participants come out and play 18 holes of golf and special thanks to the sponsors and volunteers that made it possible.

Yesterday I played 18 rounds of golf at Brookside Golf Club located at the world famous Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA. This was a @paradisocommunity X @thekingsofweightlifting collaboration and almost 60 people came out to help raise money for the @thekingsofweightlifting program located in South Central Los Angeles💙💙👏🏾😇. Those six hours flew by and it would not have been possible without the volunteers and sponsors that helped make this a great event. Special thanks to @heidiagarcia for the excellent photos taken at the event.

A couple days ago I celebrated twenty four years of competing in Olympic Weightlifting, today I’m celebrating MY BIRTHDAY 🥳 🎉 and in two days I will celebrate the 3 year anniversary of the opening of @thekingsofweightlifting 💙💙.

Today is the last day to sign up for the golf tournament on January 16th in Pasadena, CA.

I would to thank everyone throughout the decades for the support in allowing me to chase many dreams and live my true purpose.

Thank you to those that have joined me in fighting for justice who have allowed their @usa_weightlifting memberships to expire and that have called for mass resignations for the abuse USAW as a whole allowed to happen to their athletes.

Top athletes in the country are asking that the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to go along with the sports they oversee be held accountable. Simone Biles who is the face of the Olympic movement cannot even get the organization to conduct an independent investigation into the abuse that happened in gymnastics. Due to what I believe is a system of abuse, exploitation and discrimination that suppresses and locks athletes into a confidential internal process established by the USOPC it is hard for athletes to get their stories out there but even with that being said athletes are fighting back. The USOPC has been hit with a record amount of lawsuits throughout the past few years and it is my understanding that those numbers will continue to rise until that structure is no more. Since 2014 I have been making complaints about USAW’s structure (overseen and approved by the USOPC). I feel that if my issues were allowed to even go on record and be investigated by the judicial or ethics committee for USAW they would have had to make changes with so many complaints stacking up. Since I have gone public I have not heard from any USAW board members or athlete reps to get a better understanding of the situation or to offer support.
The only way we can stop this system is to have a collective bargaining agreement and an union for Olympic athletes. Meet me in Atlanta on December 4, 2020 for the protest and shutdown of the American Open/National Championships and they will all hear us loud and clear!

08/27/2020

As athletes, coaches and humans it is our duty to fight for the next generation. When we were told it couldn’t be done or that it would be extremely hard we still opened up the #kingsofweightlifting a free after school program in South Central Los Angeles that focuses on Olympic Weightlifting 💙💙.

A Warrior’s Journey

Growing up in the inner city of St. Louis including coaching (starting at nineteen) at Lift for Life Gym I have had over two dozen friends, family members and athletes murdered. I have faced some close calls with about a dozen guns being pointed at me throughout the course of my life. I’ve spent almost my entire adult life working at nonprofits because I am going to make change happen in this society. I have never ran from a man or begged for my life but I have fought for myself, the hopeless and the voiceless the whole time to have a fair shot. Sometimes this is what you have to go through to reach your dreams and this is just a plight of a soldier and the current battle is to make sure USA Weightlifting creates an equal playing field and provides decency and respect to its athletes ✊🏾 .
See you in Atlanta on December 4, 2020 and in Columbus, Ohio March 4, 2021.

Due to the great support from our community 👏👏 @niceliftco will be restocking and selling more of their “Stop The Hate Lift Some Weight,” shirts which benefits our program 💙💙. #kingsofweightlifting

Leaving the gym this day we were so proud because we were one step closer toward opening a free Weightlifting gym/after school program that gave an opportunity for ALL to participate no matter their economic level. Our commitment to social justice, athletes and kids is why we fight everyday for their voices to be heard 💙💙 #kingsofweightlifting

Last year we attended our first competition for a #kingsofweightlifting youth athlete. Marina had a very successful competition, graduated with honors in high school and we were able to give a scholarship to help with attending school at a four year university in Southern California 💙💙.

We believe in positive reinforcement at all times and don’t believe in tearing down young athletes in order to build them up, imagine what sports could be without the mental and emotional abuse from coaches! #kingsofweightlifting

Thank you to everyone that has ordered a #kingsofweightlifting flag for their gym, if you haven’t gotten one yet head over to @bellsofsteel to get one!

07/24/2020

The great thing about having kids start moving at a young age is that you can slowly work on stability and mobility. We often see older lifters skip these steps in the development stages and go straight into getting stronger which will create dysfunction #kingsofweightlifting #flashbackfriday

Here in Los Angeles we are faced with the legacy of structural and institutional racism on a daily basis when we see such an enormous amount of homeless Black people sleeping on the streets. Black Angelenos make up 8 percent of the population but account for 42 percent of the homeless population with more than 60,000 being homeless in any given year. We are sharing this information so we can have the knowledge and data in order to attack the problem and make effective changes. #kingsofweightlifting @ Los Angeles, California

06/24/2020

Check out the coaching cue Kendrick Farris gave to one of our athletes working on overhead work. What are some of the cues you tell to yourself or the athletes you coach?
#kingsofweightlifting

06/22/2020

In the United States almost 60% of Black households make less than $38,000 a year due to centuries of systemic racism, policy making and discrimination from slavery to our current mass incarceration era which has torn apart millions of Black families. Currently 1 out of 3 Black males will be imprisoned at some point in their lives but if we look specifically at the inner city we will see that the numbers are around 1 out of 2 that will be incarcerated even though all races commit crimes at similar rates. This dissolution of the Black family has resulted in economic instability with 70% of Black kids being raised by single Black females who have the highest rates of evictions in the country. In Los Angeles a family needs about $75,000 to be considered middle class and almost 80% of Black households fall under this threshold. #kingsofweightlifting

06/21/2020

Over the past few weeks we have had some tough conversations about race in America and this joint publication by Duke University and UCLA shows the reality. Our program that serves mostly Black and Mexican youth exists to give these groups access to this type of training because the typical Black or Mexican family is worth less than $200 liquid in Los Angeles. In order for these groups to participate in Crossfit or Olympic Weightlifting which is over $200/month they would have to go into more debt and take money away from essentials like food and housing. Special thanks to our new donors this month for helping with our mission 💙💙 #kingsofweightlifting
