Hello! Most of you already know me, but for those of you who don’t, I’m very excited to get to know you! My name is Allison, and I am the new General Manager of 6-Pack Volleyball, effective today. 🏐
I know that a lot of you grew close with Griffin and his family, me included, and I am grateful to get to build on and elevate what they started here! I’d love to give you a brief introduction of myself… 👋
I was born and raised right here in the Southend of Louisville and graduated from Butler Traditional High School in 2004 (shhh 😜). I have a partner of 6 years, Steven, who a lot of you all know as well. I also have 4 children (Jorden, Ella, Lukas, and Hannah) ages 14-22, 3 dogs (Romeo, Ralphie, and Tod), a cat (Harlow), and I currently live in Jeffersonville, IN. I have over 200 houseplants (no exaggeration). And I enjoy spending whatever time with my kids that they let me these days, working on cars, and of course, volleyball! 🌿 🚗 🏐
I attended college for Surgical Technology and Nursing (RN) but interestingly enough, my professional experience has all been business operations and leadership related. I worked as a trainer at Humana Inc. for many years before I decided I needed more excitement in my career. I then became a Regional Operations Manager for Usher Transport and was responsible for all aspects of business for multiple terminals across 6 states, but I didn’t feel like fuel transportation was my lifelong destiny. So, I took some time off from work to complete nursing school. But then when COVID hit, I decided that bedside nursing wasn’t for me anymore! I always knew that my “WHY” was ultimately PEOPLE, but I was really looking for something that I was passionate about. I became an Area Leader for 7-Eleven and really loved what I did there. I was responsible for operations of up to 15 convenience stores at one time. I loved being able to walk into a store for the first time and finding what I could make better about it. I had the cleanest and most profitable gas stations in the city, with the lowest employee turnover rate! I had around 150 employees at any given time, and I really enjoyed being able to develop them and watch them grow in their own careers. Ultimately, my LOVE for people didn’t align with the corporate demands of a 24-hour operation. In the end I chose the people over the corporation, and here we are… 👩💼
So, how did I wander into the volleyball world and thus, 6-Pack? 🤔 Great question! I was pretty athletic for my entire life. I did gymnastics and cheered from the time I could jump and all through high school, but my real passion sport was softball. I played competitively even up until just a few years ago, in whatever spare time I had. But I had a gruesome (that’s an understatement) trampoline accident in 2018 that left my knee obliterated, and me requiring FIVE knee surgeries! I thought my passion for playing sports was going to turn to knitting and working. I went from thinking I may not walk again, to looking for a sport I could eventually play that would keep me active, if I did. And I found beach volleyball. I never really even touched a volleyball until I was 35 years old and after 5 knee surgeries. But when I did, I fell in love! I signed up for as many nights and leagues as I could, with anyone that would play with me, because I just wanted to learn. And while I didn’t grow up playing like a lot of you, I can assure you that I am passionate about this sport and knowing it. This sport has brought lots of bright light to some of my darkest days, and I know that you can all relate to that. 💯
If you’re still reading this, I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to be here. I want you all to know that I truly have the best intentions of not only the Louisville volleyball community as a whole, but even more specifically, 6-Pack Volleyball as my own home facility. I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to build a place where you all are excited to be. I can’t wait to learn about each of you personally and what I can do to make this a better place for you! 🏠
I started by having an air compressor installed on the wall in the lower breezeway area. I know that even after I spray myself with the hose, I still track sand everywhere in my life! Feel free to use it to blow off your belongings, your hair, that part of your back you can’t reach with the towel…whatever. 😏 I’d love to hear from you all over the next few weeks, what you want from your “home” as well. Thank you for also being patient with me as we make this a positive change, as a community. I’m looking forward to FINALLY using my successful business operations experience for something that I’m TRULY passionate about! 🏐
