Officer Ryan Alexander is fighting to recover from a massive heart attack, and he and his family need our help.

Last week, what began as a normal shift ended in a life-threatening medical emergency. Just hours after leaving work, Ryan suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed into emergency surgery. Doctors discovered that only 2% of his heart was functioning. At just 43 years old and in great shape, Ryan's life was suddenly hanging in the balance. Following a quadruple bypass, he remains hospitalized as he begins a long road to recovery. His wife, Haley, and their two young children, Preston and Paisley, are facing a reality they never imagined.

Officer Alexander has a heart for service and has been protecting our city since 2017. He serves in the 2nd Division and has always wanted to be a police officer, driven by his passion for helping others, protecting our community, and keeping dangerous substances off our streets.

Now, he needs our support. Ryan and Haley are facing mounting medical bills, and Haley is taking family medical leave to care for him during his recovery. On top of that, Ryan is unable to work overtime to help support his family as he heals.

Please join with us to walk alongside Ryan and his family on his journey to recovery. If you’re able to contribute, please do. And just as importantly, keep Ryan, Haley, Preston, and Paisley in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for your kindness.

A huge thank you to Blackout Racing Stable for bringing our community together in support of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation and our Officer in Distress Fund!

The Officer in Distress Fund provides critical support to officers and their families when they face unexpected hardships and difficult circumstances. Events like this help ensure that support is there when it’s needed most.

Despite the rain, golfers showed up at Nevel Meade Golf Course ready to play and ready to support a meaningful cause. Thank you to everyone who came out, participated, and helped make this event a success!

This TEN-4 Day, we’re joining Kosair for Kids’ Face It Movement to raise awareness about child abuse recognition and prevention and the TEN-4-FACESp bruising rule.

Law enforcement officers are often among the people called upon when there are concerns about a child’s safety. Their ability to recognize these signs is an important part of helping ensure children get the protection they need.

But this isn’t something only law enforcement needs to know.

Parents. Teachers. Coaches. Caregivers. Neighbors. All of us have a role in keeping children safe.

TEN-4 is one tool that can help adults recognize when bruising in young children may be concerning. Taking the time to learn these signs can help us become more informed and more prepared to speak up when something doesn’t seem right.

This October 4th, take a few minutes to learn about TEN-4 and share what you learn. Because when it comes to protecting children, awareness matters.

This September, Louisville celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Month, which was unanimously passed by a resolution led by Councilman Dan Seum Jr., in recognition of the service and sacrifices of local law enforcement. The month was chosen in honor of Officer Peter Grignon, the first LMPD officer to lose his life in the line of duty following the city-country merger. Today, September 30th was Officer Grignon's birthday.

This year, we partnered with the Louisville Metro Council and Texas Roadhouse to provide meals to every LMPD division, as well as the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. We also put together goodie bags as a small way to let our officers know that their service does not go unnoticed.

We are grateful for the opportunity to show our support for the heroes who put their lives on the line every day to protect others, and we cannot thank the Louisville Metro Council enough for helping make this possible!

As we celebrate Law Enforcement Appreciation Month, we’re taking time to recognize the officers who show up for our community every day, not just in the big moments, but in the small ones, too.

Recently, a community member shared this story with us about Officer Malliccaai Green of 3rd Division, and it’s a perfect example of the kind of everyday compassion that can mean so much to someone.

“My car overheated and I broke down. I was hot, scared, miserable and falling apart. A police SUV pulled in, and I got extremely nervous. I wasn’t trying to trespass or break a law by being there.

The officer pulled up to me and did something that shocked me. Officer Malliccaai Green showed me true compassion. He asked if I was okay and if I needed something cold to drink. He went to the store and brought me back a Pepsi Polar Pop.

This wasn’t about a cold drink to me at all. It was about showing true concern, compassion and kindness to a stranger.

I want to praise this officer and thank him for being a good human and a true gentleman. Please let him know how thankful I am.”

Officer Green, thank you for taking the time to care. What may have felt like a small gesture to you made a lasting impression on someone who was having a really difficult day.

This month, we’re celebrating officers like Officer Green and all the ways they make a difference in our community, sometimes with nothing more than a little kindness and a cold Pepsi.
