A practitioner needs to practice at home as well as the kwoon
100 arm movements or hand strikes equal to the amount of months you have been in training, also at least a quarter of the same amount of leg movements as you have done in arm movements. 10 of each form you know. Yes. It's very serious but it's your kung fu.
So somebody who just started should do 10 Sil Nim Tao , and 100 punches and maybe a set of front kicks and side kicks.
Someone who has been training a year , well you have a lot to work on.

Moy Yat Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu: Martial arts training for fitness & self-defense.
Pronounced Wing Chun, is an ancient Chinese martial art that was designed in times of war as a powerful military technology. We practice it in modern times to defend ourselves in the streets, as well as explore our own economy of motion, and to develop more profound relaxation. VT Kung Fu From The Yip Man Lineage

Sil Lim Tao 2
The little idea.
There will always be conflict between beings. Doesn't mean we should not attempt to not be in conflict. A gardener with a sword but not a swordsman without a garden
Sil Lim Tao is your garden, it is also your sword ?
If you don't want both, join the military ,be responsible enough to be the swordsman... Stop attempting to delude yourself that you don't want that responsibility .
But if you want peace , you must nurture and maintain both.
This is what a warrior has to do both . You don't only need to protect you loved ones , you need to feed them .
Different . Ideas.
Sil Nim Tao . Created by fighting monks and nuns based on systems of unarmed combat, from what worked in everyday unarmed combat.
Used by Guerillas fighting Manchu oppression, and now all over the world by civilians , and military.
One day you will understand. Play more Sil Nim Tao.

Sil Nim Tao.
When I first played Sil Nim Tao.
My mind was racing.
Why ? Came up a lot.
Shouldn't I be working on techniques, conditioning , sparring ?
I thought Ving Tsun would drive me crazy and I would just stay for a year at most.
The theories made sense , but the 1/2 hour to hour of playing Sil Nim Tao didn't.
Until it did. It took time for Sil Lim Tao to make sense
I had to give the little idea time to develop.
So much of our martial arts experience is focused on the fastest way to get to be a great fighter . But none of us when we focus on our conditioning, fitness and technique do we actually focus on actual conditioning, fitness and technique.
Maybe it's because we focus on fighting other beings first instead of our first real opponent. Our first real opponent is ourselves...the I. The I , the ego which says you already know how to fight and not trusting a Sifu and 2,000 or more years of ancient knowledge about conflict. It's easier to play two man drills then it is to sit in a horse and play a form , slowly and steadily ,attempting to empty the mind. The real empty the mind. The real still was.
Sil Nim Tao is the text book for all your theory and techniques , fitness and discipline among a myriad of tactical and other knowledge . It even has your Chi Gung in it.
You will run from it for years. There are those that say they embrace it , but have they ? Can one ? Is it physically or mentally even spiritually braces until you practice it wholeheartedly for thousands of repetitions ?
Yes , maybe if we just taught you
Which is ok ,maybe you as an individual don't , or your Sifu is another Uncle Bruce ,IDK. everything but , maybe you are so much a natural of fighting you don't need it ?
Most martial arts have a series of exercises put into a routine , but many Ving Tsun Practitioners think they don't need Sil Lim Tao.
It's your kung fu ,not mine
But it's in a system that has survived battlefields, rings, the street, and other places where everyday people ,needed it. It's used by militaries , and police forces that have proven its value.
So there is something to the little idea
Even if the little idea is causing your patience to waiver ... It's supposed to be hard to do on many levels it's Kung Fu.
There is an upcoming workshop in Virginia Beach October 23-25th if anyone is interested. It will be a great training opportunity.

July 4th marks Ving Tsun Memorial Day, which coincides with the US National Holiday celebrating Independence. Notably, Ving Tsun's philosophy also revolves around independence. The origins of Ving Tsun are rooted in the legend of the 36th Chamber, where the Venerable Five created a martial art designed for real-world battles, tailored for those who couldn't dedicate themselves to rigorous monastic training. Following the destruction of the Shaolin Temple, Ng Mui adapted these techniques for her student, Ving Tsun, paving the way for the Red Opera Boats - practitioners who fought against the Manchu persecution to preserve their art. This struggle for preservation underscores the art's purpose: empowering ordinary individuals to defend against oppression. Similarly, the American colonists fought for independence against British rule, marked by ruthlessness. The right to defend oneself, one's community, and nation is fundamental. For Ving Tsun practitioners, this translates to a responsibility to stand against injustice and protect those in need. By training diligently and leading by example, practitioners embody the spirit of independence and responsibility. What does independence signify to you?

There are multiple facets of the Horse that relate to the body's energy, rooted in physics rather than mysticism. Slowing down one's Sil Num Tao practice and being mindful can lead to enhanced energy and better overall health. The interconnectedness of the root, stem, and leaves mirrors the connection between the Horse, rider, and bow, extending to the smallest detail of the string. While others may control the bow, we master the string.
