Pro Tip:

Research suggests that eccentrics added into a four week bench pressing program can increase bench press 1RM better than the same program without eccentrics.

Does this completely extrapolate to overhead for Strongman? Maybe. If anything do your eccentrics to improve motor control and bar path in your overhead press.

Pro Tip:

Research suggests that voluntary core stabilization increases shoulder flexion strength compared to involuntary core stabilization.

Aka focus on bracing hard before you press for a bigger press.

Shout out to LSM athlete Shante Thaxton for winning the Beast of the Bluegrass HW Novice division. She swept 4/5 events and hit PR’s on every lift. Great work Shante!

Understand this concept and you will gain so much more from your experience as a strength athlete than medals, records, or titles: The real lesson is learning to struggle or strain with all of yourself, and being comfortable with it. This comfort is how you become better at all other aspects of your life. The strength game will end for all of us someday, how it teaches you to be a stronger person in life will be your legacy and what people remember, not your records.

Strongman Analytics Tip:

Always. Ask. Why. Why do you suck at something? The answer to this tells you what you should be doing more of in training. It doesn’t do you any good to always train what you’re good at, but it does you a lot of good to always train what you suck at.

PS: Always remember, the goal is to not suck.

Strongman Analytics Tip:

There is such a thing as too much tacky.

There’s also such a thing as tacky timing. Too soon before your run and it won’t last. Too late and it won’t last. Learn these lessons in training before game day to maximize your performance.

Strongman Analytics Tip:

Dynamic Correspondence: The carryover from one lift/exercise to your competition lift.

Every exercise should have a reason and purpose, to include the manor in which you perform it. If you don’t have a very good reason for doing something... don’t do it, save the energy for other more important lifts.

Strongman Analytics Tip #4:

Understand that training for a contest in the novice class is generally much different than training for the open class. As the weights get heavier your training must get smarter.

Strongman Analytics Tip #3:
When there is an event that is ‘for time’, that means everything you do from the start of the clock until the event is complete counts towards your score. It doesn’t do you any good to be fast at just part of it, train to be fast at all of it.

Strongman Analytics Dr. Mark Clevenger The title of the sport of Strongman can be deceiving, it implies that only absolute strength is tested and that the statically strongest person always wins. This cannot be further from the truth. A Strongman contest is a series of 5 different events that can test an athletes absolute strength, repetition strength, speed strength, conditioning, athleticism, and equipment mastery....
