The lazy days of summer are upon us! ☀️ The days are growing longer, and it feels like we have all the time in the world to soak up the joy of music, movement, and open-ended play.

Let’s make the most of it by exploring SPEED—S… L… O...W… & FAST! 🏃💨

Being able to move their body on demand, at any speed, is an amazing way for your little one to feel in control of their body’s strength. This is where self-regulation begins! As they power up and down with more skill and efficiency, their brain is freed up for higher-level thinking. Big, important skills like self-control, concentration, planning, and problem-solving take root through play! 🦥

What an extraordinary time we had at our first Reggio-inspired playgroup last week! It was incredible to observe your little ones' minds and bodies fully engaged. Introducing “loose parts” materials enriched our experience even more than I had hoped.

As we explore SIZE again this week, let’s remember that regulating the mind starts in our bodies… because how we move is how we think!

Young children work toward "regulation" (a balanced, comfortable state) not by staying still, but by moving between:

🦋 BIG, expansive, energetic play
🐛 SMALL, focused, quiet play

This beautiful back-and-forth is regulation in motion! Whole-body dancing and loose parts play give children the freedom to choose exactly what intensity their body and nervous system need. 🌿

“BIG, small, & everything In Between”
Today is our first ever Reggio-Inspired playgroup! We’ll start with BIG BODY dancing, and then try out some open-ended materials (often called “loose parts”) so your little one can explore SIZE in multiple ways.

Simple materials will invite your little one to move between “big” and “small” experiences to find what feels right in their body. Grown-ups will observe, follow their lead, and wonder what meaning they’re discovering during their investigations!

✨ New Playgroup Coming Soon! ✨
We’re excited to introduce a new Reggio Emilia–inspired family playgroup that will alternate with our popular movement and music-based GrowBabyGrow at Arts In Play playgroups!

This new offering, designed for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers (3 months–5 years) and their caregivers, is grounded in the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which views children as capable and curious protagonists of their own learning. Through open-ended materials, sensory explorations, and familiar dance-inspired provocations (like energy, size, and flow), children are invited to lead the way while caregivers explore alongside them.

✨ Expect:
• Child-led, relationship-centered play
• Movement as one of the many “languages” of expression
• Thoughtfully prepared environments and materials
• A slower-paced, responsive space for wondering, moving, and connecting
