Have you ever seen a public works vehicle up close? They're a lot bigger than you'd expect!

Our summer campers got a behind-the-scenes look at some of the equipment that keeps Louisville running smoothly. They climbed inside, took turns "driving," honked the horns, and learned all about the important work our Public Works team does every day.

A big thank-you to the Public Works team for putting together such a fun, hands-on experience for our campers!

July is Parks and Recreation Month!

Parks and Recreation Month is a time to celebrate the places, programs, and experiences that bring communities together.

This year's National Recreation and Park Association theme, "The Power Of," recognizes the positive impact parks and recreation have on our daily lives. They support physical and mental well-being, create opportunities to learn and grow, protect natural spaces, and help build a stronger, more connected community.

In Louisville, that includes everything from neighborhood parks and playgrounds to miles of trails, open spaces, recreation programs, the Recreation & Senior Center, Coal Creek Golf Course, and community events. These are the places where children play, friends connect, families make memories, and neighbors come together.

This July, we invite you to get outside, try something new, visit a favorite park, or explore a trail. Discover the power of play, the power of connection, the power of nature, and the power of community and see how parks and recreation help make Louisville a place people love to call home.

This month, we're doing the monthly fitness challenge differently. No burnout. No guilt-tripping. Just mobility, mindful movement, and rest that's actually built into the plan, because recovery isn't the opposite of progress. It's part of it.

The sun was out, the burgers were grillin', and it was the perfect day for our annual summertime picnic! 176 seniors came together for a classic celebration complete with grilled burgers, potato salad, and ice cream sandwiches included!

Thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers who made it all happen. And a special thanks to Word of Mouth Catering & Bakery for the delicious meal. Happy summer, everyone!

The Louisville Recreation & Senior Center Summer Day Camp campers were determined to get to the root of Louisville's tomato history.

Yesterday, our campers took on the “Find the Pomodoro” scavenger hunt, searching Louisville for eight hidden tomato-inspired local works of art. Along the way, they learned about a unique piece of Louisville history, explored different parts of town, and had a great time tracking down each tomato. Let’s just say it was a vine way to spend the day at summer camp.

Congratulations to Louisville resident and Louisville Recreation & Senior Center regular Virgil Olson on reaching an incredible milestone: donating his 95th gallon of blood.

At 93 years old, Virgil has been donating since he was 18, helping countless patients over a lifetime of giving. His 95 gallons represent roughly 760 donations and place him among a small group of Colorado donors to reach this remarkable achievement. "It's no problem, and I am glad I can donate," he said. "As long as I can drive there, I can donate." Virgil’s family joined him for the big day, along with current and former Vitalant staff.

Think you can catch up to Virgil? Vitalant - Colorado is at the Louisville Recreation & Senior Center today until 2 p.m. Every donation helps save lives. Can't make it today? The Louisville Recreation & Senior Center hosts a Vitalant Blood Drive on the first Friday of every even-numbered month throughout 2026. Appointments are suggested and can be made at www.donors.vitalant.org

Congratulations, Virgil, and thank you for making a difference one donation at a time.
