The 10th Annual Bachelor Classic will take place on Saturday, August 23rd. We are taking signups at

The annual tradition that is the Bachelor Classic began in 2005 as a modest gathering of friends on the verge of college graduation exploring a means for positive social influence. The “BC” has since evolved into a community extending well beyond the golf course advocating the fight against the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. While many of us call the state of Kentucky home,

Friends of the Bachelor Classic,

We hope this email finds you well. Some of you may be wondering why you have yet to see news of the 2015 tournament, so here is an update:

In short, we are taking a hiatus. After a ten year run that continuously exceeded our expectations in terms of growth, outreach and funds raised, we are gathering our thoughts and considering changes that will reposition the BC for another decade of success. Those of you that know us well know that we are several years removed from the days when the name of the event described our personal situations more than the youthful spirit of the event. At this stage, with less time on our hands, we know that heavier collaboration with the fundraising professionals at UsTOO and our main sponsors will help us better manage the mission.

In other news, we are pleased to let you know that one of your BC Chairmen (Mr. Walt) had the opportunity to speak on an Awareness & Fundraising panel at UsTOO International’s 25th Anniversary Educational Symposium in Chicago last weekend (see event link below). The experience was enriching, and our story was well received. Given that prostate cancer is rare in men younger than 45, mobilization of the young can be a particular challenge. Therefore, a large gathering of UsTOO leadership and general supports was delighted to hear about the way we have been carrying the blue banner with no shortage of enthusiasm since 2005. Follow up discussions were many, and it is safe to say that the BC is likely to serve as an influential export from Kentucky. As always, we encourage you to spend time on UsTOO’s website to stay up to date with the organization that does a great deal to improve the lives of those afflicted affected by prostate cancer.

Please accept our gratitude for your respective contributions over the years, and know that we remain committed to our shared (blue)grassroots phenomenon.

Cheers,

The BC Committee

Many thanks to our photography volunteers Rachel Hatteberg Walt and Catherine Marie!

The Bachelor Classic 08/25/2014

Just sending a quick word of appreciation to all of the sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and other supporters that contributed to a resounding success on our 10th anniversary! We had just under 100 participants and will have collectively raised approximately $7K (an event record) for Us TOO International when all pledges are met.

Congratulations to Tony Colyer, our new resident Man Of the Year, and the Shannon/Quarles/Albertan/Speers team for taking home the championship barrels. Also worthy of recognition is Ted Bartley (the oldest BC participant on record at 87 years of age) and our first ever female participants, Kathy Albertson and Susie Speers.

A special word of thanks to Russ Wardlaw for accepting our second annual Blue Award and taking a few moments to share his story.

Finally, as with any event of this nature, there is a core group of people that dedicate a considerable amount of time to ensure that everything comes together on game day. BC X simply would not have been possible without the efforts of Matt Zinser, Justin Rzepka, Ben Spies, Eric Harden, Greg Weiter, and Chris Casconi.

Please visit our website (www.thebachelorclassic.com) to stay up to date with the tournament. At any point in time, the BC is only as strong as its community. With your continued commitment, we have plenty of reason to be optimistic about the road ahead!

All the best,
Matt

Friends of the Bachelor Classic -

As previously announced, the tenth installment of our annual tradition is scheduled to take place at Hidden Creek Golf Club on Saturday, August 23rd. For the golfers among you, please proceed to register individually or as a team at www.thebachelorclassic.com. We are requesting all entries by Sunday, August 17th so that we may properly prepare for the crowd.

As we have in the past, we are encouraging the BC Community of 100+ previous golfers, 50+ previous sponsors, and other tourney advocates to help us advance our mission by (i) coming back out (of course) and (ii) helping us connect with new potential participants. That said, please consider sharing our story with individuals and corporations that may be interested.

While our contribution to the effort against prostate cancer (the second leading cause of cancer death in American men) has grown steadily with each passing year (we raised a record $6K in 2013), we are striving to achieve “$10K for 10 years” this time around. We are extremely proud to announce that longtime BC supporter First Urology (the largest urological care provider in the Louisville and S. Indiana area) has given us a boost out of the gate by agreeing to assume the role of our Title Sponsor!

We aim to constantly enhance our impact and at this point, the BC is a household name at the offices of Us TOO International (www.ustoo.org). We are always open to suggestions and will provide periodic updates over the weeks ahead via email, the website, Twitter () and Facebook so please connect with us! Also, you may also be interested to see the profile of BC X that made the Spring 2014 edition of the St. Xavier Tiger alumni magazine.

We greatly appreciate all of your previous and future involvement! When we got started back in 2005, we never contemplated that we would eventually celebrate a decade of such success. Whether you golf, donate, promote the BC, or simply spend time with us, please accept our sincere gratitude.

Cheers,

The Bachelor Classic Committee
